I am ridiculously excited to jump into our kindergarten homeschool year! I feel like we’ve been thinking about it and planning for so long and I’m ready to see how it looks in real life. Our first official day (because I have type A tendencies and need an official start date) will be the Tuesday after Labor Day. Since the late summer holiday symbolizes the end of the season, we’ll be jumping into our first fall-themed unit study, APPLES!

I decided to try out thematic learning for kindergarten for the subjects other than math and language arts. I wanted to ensure those core subjects are set solidly into our routine, but I’m sure I will also be integrating them into the themes.

Each month we will have a theme that encompasses science, arts and crafts, home economics (cooking), field trips, a historical figure, and additional reading into our days. My plan is to share it with you each month ahead of time so you are able to incorporate some of the activities into your fall days if you are interested AND so you can offer me suggestions ahead of time if you happen to know of some good links or ideas that fit the theme! Thank you in advance 😉

I worry I might be overzealous with my planning, but the beautiful thing about homeschool is that I’ll be able to adjust along the way. So here it is, our Kindergarten Homeschool September unit study: APPLES!

How to Make An Apple Pie and See the World // Amelia Bedelia’s First Apple Pie // Apples // Ten Apples Up On Top // Apples Apples Apples // Sneeze, Big Bear, Sneeze

Apple Cinnamon Oat Muffins // Apple Pie // Slow Cooker Applesauce // Apple Squash Soup

Comparing Apple Varieties Using the Different Senses // Oxidation of Apples in Different Solutions

An apple orchard of course! I will most likely use a lot of the printouts that I found through Mama’s Learning Corner (pictured above) and try to find this Johnny Appleseed book at my library.

My plan is to have this all mapped out and we’ll work our way through it however it fits into our schedule. Each weekend of September I’ll glance at our week ahead and pick a couple items tasks to incorporate so I can acquire the necessary supplies. I’ve also already put at least 10 apple books on hold at the library, so I encourage you to do the same because I noticed they are starting to be snatched up.

Like I mentioned before, if you have additional resources or links that you think would be additive, please leave them in the comments for all to enjoy!
