Convenience. Some seasons of life just call for it (new baby, grief, child activity season, etc). I love good food and typically put my effort to creating at dinner time. Breakfast is typically something easy like a smoothie or eggs, and lunch is often a snack plate or salad of some sort.

While I like those just fine, sometimes I want something better. Warmer. More nutrient dense. And delicious. Without having to make it myself. With those goals in mind I’ve tried two delivery services, both over a length of time that allowed me to experience multiple products and deliveries, so let’s take a look at Daily Harvest vs Splendid Spoon.

Both Daily Harvest and Splendid Spoon are plant-based, vegan, subscription-based food delivery services. They both are comprised of only whole food ingredients, therefore having impressive ingredient lists. But there are some differences you’ll want to know about before choosing which service to go with. Let’s dive in!

Splendid Spoon

I began with Splendid Spoon. They were my first experience with a healthy, prepared food delivery subscription and I immediately liked it.

Splendid Spoon offers smoothies (blended and ready to drink), soup and grain bowls, wellness shots, and noodle bowls.

Splendid Spoon pros: smoothies arrive ready to open and enjoy; no blender needed, delicious flavor combinations, good portions sizes, free shipping, everything can be recycled

Splendid Spoon cons: not all organic (their smoothies are 95% organic, but not the rest of the meal options), plastic containers (though they are BPA-free)

Splendid Spoon pricing: Pricing is done by plan. They offer the breakfast plan (5 smoothies for $65 a week), the breakfast and lunch plan (5 smoothies and 5 bowls for $95 a week), breakfast, lunch, and reset plan (5 smoothies, 5 bowls, and one full day reset comprised of 4 soups and 1 bowl for $135 a week), and the breakfast, lunch, dinner, and reset plan (5 smoothies, 5 bowls, 5 noodle bowls, and 5 soups for $185 a week). You can skip a delivery or cancel your subscription at any time.

Daily Harvest

I had seen Daily Harvest on social media for sometime, but being that I’m not usually much of a smoothie maker, I didn’t pay them much attention. When they reached out to offer to send me a few to try, I was up for it, and what I received exceeded my expectations.

Daily Harvest offers smoothies (all ingredients whole and ready to blend), harvest bowls, flatbreads, soups, oat bowls, chia bowls, scoops (ice cream), bites (snack balls), and lattes.

Daily Harvest pros: 95% organic across all product lines, nutrient dense, many unique offerings, no plastic (their bowls are made of molded pulp), everything can be recycled, free shipping

Daily Harvest cons: modest portions, depending on your calorie needs. I try and add my own protein to their bowls.

Daily Harvest pricing: There are three box size options: small (9 items), medium (14 items), and large (24 items). Items cost between $5.99 and $8.99 each, with the medium and large boxes receiving a discount. You can pause or cancel your subscription at anytime.
