By my standards, I rocked the grocery spending this month! I was especially surprised because we were home for the entire month (minus <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ahealthysliceoflife.com\/south-carolina-a-missed-stair-meals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">two nights in South Carolina<\/a> at Mema and Grandpa&#8217;s house).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"633\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ahealthysliceoflife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/image-2-1024x633.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-61852\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ahealthysliceoflife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/image-2-1024x633.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.ahealthysliceoflife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/image-2-640x396.png 640w, https:\/\/www.ahealthysliceoflife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/image-2-768x475.png 768w, https:\/\/www.ahealthysliceoflife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/image-2-655x405.png 655w, https:\/\/www.ahealthysliceoflife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/image-2.png 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Target: $33.43<\/li><li>Whole Foods: $52.74<\/li><li>Food Lion: $79.89<\/li><li>Publix: $130.49<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/butcherbox.pxf.io\/LPkO3j\">Butcher Box<\/a>: $206.04<\/li><li>Costco: $450.29<\/li><li><strong>GRAND TOTAL: $<\/strong>952.88<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>I expect <a href=\"https:\/\/butcherbox.pxf.io\/LPkO3j\">Butcher Box<\/a> delivery months to be higher because it&#8217;s when I stock up on chicken, pork, member specials, etc, so the fact that I&#8217;m still below $1,000 for the month even with a freezer stock up feels like a win to me. How did I do it? I noticed a few things&#8230; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First, I meal planned and stuck to my list. Second, I shopped my freezer really well and added in a few meatless or meat-light meals. <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ahealthysliceoflife.com\/what-i-ate-in-july-2022\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">See the meals we ate this month in this post<\/a><\/em>. And lastly, I sacrificed a bit on quality, like buying the Costco giant bags of shredded cheddar jack instead of grass fed cheddar blocks and shredding it myself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I cringe a little when writing things like &#8220;sacrificing on quality by not buying grass-fed cheddar&#8221; because I worry about how food snobby it could come across. My <a href=\"https:\/\/butcherbox.pxf.io\/LPkO3j\">Butcher Box<\/a> was delivered at the end of the month, which means I have a stocked meat selection for August. However, my pantry is pretty sparse so I imagine it will be a pricy restock when I get back from our trip. I plan on going to Aldi for some of those staples like salsa and tortilla chips.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s been fun for me to hear your experiences, as I know a few of you have joined in on this grocery spending tracking, too. I know budgeting isn&#8217;t a novel concept, but being super focused on it and holding myself accountable by posting it here has been a great exercise for me in discipline and self refection.
