Happy Valentine’s Day! I can only imagine that a Friday Valentine’s Day in high school is a big deal. I picture balloons, stuffed animals and all the girl dresses in pink or red, mixed with the excitement of the impending weekend. Ah, sweet memories!
Valentine’s for me now is a bit more low key. So, for today, no food, recipes, health topics or toddler talk; I just feel grateful for all the LOVE I’ve gotten to experience over the past few days of snowmageddon here in Charlotte.
It started coming down on Wednesday around noon and didn’t stop.
David was working, but I somehow lucked out having Nana here and snowed in, so we did what anyone is supposed to do when trapped inside during the winter. We baked cookies…
and watched a movie
and did a lot of pretend shopping at Target while the snow fell down… hour after hour after hour.
That’s a lot of snow for us down here, so when I found out David had to go into work Thursday morning I was not a happy camper. It was still coming down hard and every news station said to just stay home. David woke up at 5am, shoveled the driveway and then took off for his hour commute. I was such a nervous wreck. Whether you call it stupid (like I did) or dedicated, he works his tail off and I love that about him. Forgive me, I am bragging on him here a bit because it’s Valentine’s Day and I know he is dedicated to working so hard because he loves us so much.
Two hours later, I was so happy to hear he made it to his destination. That’s what Valentine’s Day is about to me now; ***CHEESE ALERT*** knowing those I love are safe and sound. David had made it, my mom was here with us, my brother was at home, not trapped in his car like he was during the last Atlanta snow… that is all I want for Valentine’s Day.
And finally, early afternoon, the snow stopped falling and the sun came out, meaning we could finally get out and PLAY!
…and attempt to shovel the driveway with a rake…
and wear our festive sweaters.
Haha! Sorry, Koda.
David made it home mid-afternoon and Hailey greeted him with a snowball to say, no driving in those conditions ever again, Daddy!
From there, we spent the next couple of hours outside, sledding with friends and walking the ‘hood.
It was a memorable few days with the ones I love. No recipe to share today or food pics, but just wishing you and yours lots of LOVE and a happy Valentine’s Day!
Do you have any Valentine’s Day plans?

Love your snowman! The snow was a lot of fun, but I’m ready for it to go away now. 😉
Katie says
I love Koda’s sweater and the look on her face…”REALLY?!”. 🙂
Brittany Dixon says
Haha, I know! The only thing better than Koda’s reaction was David’s 😉 He is not a fan of dogs in clothes! Ha!
kathy says
Happy Valentine’s Day! I love how you are so equipped for the snow since you rarely get any–snow pants for Hailey and a sled!! Love the big snowman too. 🙂
Laura @ Mommy Run Fast says
Oh my goodness, the rake… too funny!! So glad he made it in to work okay. J was lucky he had planned online course work for his students and got to stay and work from home. It took two of us well over an hour to clear our driveway.. so much snow!
Shari says
It’s nice to see someone who finds the magic in snow — everyone up here is so weary of it this winter, but your post is a reminder that it really can be special too! 🙂
Liz @ I Heart Vegetablesi says
Happy Valentine’s day! You guys certainly did get a lot of snow! I hope you’re staying warm 🙂 Looks like you made the best of it with some fun activities!

I think we might actually plan a trip to Charlotte in early May!!
Enjoy your v-day!!
Brittany Dixon says
If you’re this way, let me know! I’ll either be hugely pregnant or have a new one in my arms, but still, would be fun to meet up if possible! 🙂
Yuliya says
Oh wow! You have so much snow! We didn’t get any this year!
Happy Valentine’s day!

Hi Brittany,
You may have mentioned it before but I wondered what David does for a living? I remember you writing that he travels a lot for work, and I also saw him in scrubs once on your blog, so two and two together is adding up to….a travelling dentist? Lol
Brittany Dixon says
Haha, traveling dentist! That’d be awesome 🙂
He’s in medical sales and is at the mercy of the OR scheduling.

The snow looks so beautiful! I really wish the Sierra Nevada mountains would get more here! Happy V-day!
Nan says
Hi! New to your blog and am loving it! Wondering what that is that your daughter is standing on while baking? I have a 17 month old little guy and we are just starting to attempt to bake together and it seems a bit awkward in his high chair right now. Thanks and Happy Valentines Day!
Brittany Dixon says
David actually built it! I showed him the learning tower (http://www.diapers.com/p/little-partners-learning-tower-dark-cherry-24613?site=CA&utm_source=Google&utm_medium=cpc_D&utm_term=LI-006&utm_campaign=GooglePLA&CAWELAID=1338640382&utm_content=pla&ca_sku=LI-006&ca_gpa=pla&ca_kw={keyword})
and he said he could build something for a lot cheaper. So far, it’s been great and we use it everyday!

Looks like a fun snow day! Cute snow boots 😉

I used to live in eastern NC and really miss when snow was a novelty! NYC was sloppy, snowy and cold today…like it has been for weeks.
My two year old and I made these for Valentines Day. She loved them(both making them and eating them 🙂 )

That looks like a perfect snow day 🙂
We’re currently looking at blizzard conditions outside…good times. I’m ready for winter to be over! Speaking of which, I think I’ll go turn our heat up in case we lose power with the 50 mph wind gusts we’re expecting later. LOL
Matt @ Runner Savvy says
Crazy snow storm!
