Happy 4th of July to my fellow Americans! We’ve had a fun weekend, hosting some of our best friends from our college days, just like we did 3 years ago. Things have changed a bit in the past decade or so (?!) and we now have 7 kids between us!
Then there are other things that haven’t changed so much, like our ability to chat and laugh like no time has passed at all, the generosity of everyone pitching in to make an entire weekend run incredibly smoothly, and the fact that if you ask Jordan to grab one thing, like smores supplies, you will end up with more options than you know what to do with!
I didn’t hear anyone complain though.
Our friends arrived on Friday and thanks to Walmart’s curbside pickup, stocking the fridge for the weekend was easy.
With a full fridge, we were all free to sit back, relax and- hahaha just kidding- try to keep up with our kids!
Our new version of our favorite float- the relaxation station
The kids all got along so well and now the biggest ones are getting a little older, we actually were left with a little time to just hang out and relax while the kids entertained each other.
Meals went smoothly. We stuck to crowd-feeding classics like pulled pork with slaw
and hot dogs.
Oh and sangria. David made a bucketful (quite literally) of sangria.
And it was a little too delicious I decided while sipping my third cup.
We loaded up on snacks for boat rides, which was a key move.
It made for two rather low key trips, which surprised me with that many kiddos on board.
All in all, the weekend was what you would expect: a little swimming, a little floating, a little fishing, and a little fireside smore-ing.
That marshmallow was bigger than her face and she dominated it.
Saturday evening was beautiful and David set off fireworks. Some left us ducking and covering while others were quite impressive.
Sunday morning we were able to squeeze in another boat ride
a little more swimming
a a smidge more water table fun- safety first!–
before our friends packed up to head back to reality.
We had such a blast. I hope you all had a wonderful weekend too!
Happy birthday America!
I’m curious now- how do you make smores?
Do you stick to the classic or doctor it up like Jordan with multiple chocolate bar and spread options?!

LOVE that picture of Kaitlyn eating a s’more. That’s awesome you guys have kids of similar ages. It would definitely help keep everyone happy. Those floats are pretty awesome too- I need to look into getting one for next summer.
Have a wonderful fourth of July!

What a great and action-filled weekend! It really looks like the perfect summer time. Brittany, your patterned bikini looks adorable!
Oh, and the sangria surely tasted so good, because of all the fruit in there… 😉
Have a great holiday!

Thank you! And you’re right, I probably liked the sangria so much because it was so healthy– all that fruit 😉

Boat rides, fireworks, food and friends? Sounds like an amazing weekend to me! My personal favorite s’more with gluten free graham crackers is to add peanut butter to the classic filling (everything’s better with PB to me!)

That looks like a lot of fun!
