It’s cold. Shocking, right? I mean, I’m sure you haven’t heard anyone else on the news, facebook, twitter or other form of communication mentioning the unseasonably cold weather 😉 But I didn’t realize how cold it was for me until I went for a jog yesterday morning and had to dress like this:
gawwwwwwww…. I need some real running clothes. STAT.
& there is frost on the grass for cryin’ out loud… BRR!!!
…not that Koda seemed to mind. Although I think she ran around like a crazy dog so she could keep her blood flowing. Those little ears get SO cold!
I had intentions of going for a jog to try out my new iPhone app- Map My Run. It’s a cool little app that uses GPS to tell you how far you’ve gone, as well as keeping a record of your speed, pace and time. Pretty neat for a FREE app.
However, my jog quickly turned into a wog. Not sure if it was the cold outside or the tiredness dragging me. Also, you haven’t heard me chat about any races because… I didn’t sign up for any in December. It’s just TOO busy and trying to squeeze in a race would overwhelm me. I will be on the lookout for races come early 2011, because otherwise I won’t be as dedicated to running… I just know it.
So how did my wog turn out?! See below… it also shows a map of where you’ve been, but no need to put that out for the internet crazies to see… (not talking about you wonderful blends, of course! ;))
About 2.5 miles in 31 minutes. Not bad for a morning wog in the cold!
Also, is it me or is this dry weather making anyone else completely parched??
I seriously can not get enough water lately!
Yesterday was busy and productive… busy into the night. Hubbs and I worked until about 10pm, so dinner was simple. Yet delicious.
Do you find yourself more thirsty when the air gets dry?

It might be simple…but it really does look like a delicious dinner! I’m jealous of it, actually…and of your Christmas tree!

Perhaps you could ask Santa for some winter wogging apparel? 😉 I am someone who always needs a lot of water, and I think in the winter I “forget” to drink enough because I’m so cold and cold water just isn’t as inviting as it is in the heat of the summer. Not a good thing – I definitely need to remind myself to be sipping all day!

Brittany I found your blog about 1 month ago as I was prepping for my first ever 5k in Jacksonville, FL. I googled “first 5k tips,” and A Healthy Slice of life came up because you had just run your first! I’ve been reading along ever since and I was actually thinking about commenting to ask if you had signed up for any of the races you mentioned in December – I’m running my second on Saturday. I also did the couch to 5K program, and found myself a little lost for what to do after I finished the first race! With the holidays coming up I just decided to keep jogging when I could, but I signed up for another 5k, just to have some focus. Not sure if you’ve tried Hal Higgdon’s programs, but I’m thinking of increasing my milage in the beginning of 2011 using those running plans – they seem doable and focus on milage instead of time. Anyway just wanted to drop a line to let you know I’m enjoying the blog…oh, and that I drink a LOT of water, all the time.

Love the WOG! LOL! Good for you for getting out there and running in the cold. I find it super hard to get bundled and then sweat it out. But it feels so good. So good for you girl!

Yes, I feel totally dehydrated all the time lately. It’s crazy!
Congrats on getting out in the cold! I can’t seem to make myself do it and I’m finally thinking I’ll have to go to the gym!

Why did I spent $150 on a Garmin? That app looks awesome! Thanks for the tip!
I have to 100% agree with you on the running in the cold thing. I’ve been trying some cold weather runs and I certainly feel like I’ve lost my running mojo – my lungs cannot handle cold weather, so I’m taking it indoors until its warm again.

So you like Map My Run? I use Run Keeper on my iPhone. They have both free and paid versions. Always like to keep my options open in finding better methods though. Don’t think I’m ready for a Garmin yet. 😉
