We do not get out for a date night as often as we’d like to, but last night the stars aligned and I snagged us a 6:30 reservation in Kindred’s patio tent. After feeding the kids hotdogs and mac ‘n cheese, David and I headed to downtown Davidson to enjoy an evening on the patio.
Our last visit to Kindred was in August and I was looking forward to savoring a combination of classic favorites, the milk bread of course, and new menu items. But first, wine.
I chose a Gruner Veltliner from Austria which was a crisp and light, perfect for the summery weather that arrived this week.
I love a Kindred date night because even though there is plenty of hustle and bustle at the popular spot, the service is wonderful and never makes you feel rushed. They also are thorough in their explanations of the dishes, which is nice because I have never recognized every ingredient in a dish.
We started with the Snapper Crudo with schezwan cucumber, white asparagus, and pixie tangerine. Then we ordered the duck fat fries (you guysssssssss they are the best) and the porcini tagliatelle with rock crab, jersey cream, calabrian chile, and fine herbs.
As we enjoyed our meal I had one “rule” if you will- not to discuss any ins and outs of daily life. Yes we have soccer try outs happening and logistics for summer travel to figure out at some point, but it’s been so long since we’ve talked about our life vision, our hopes and plans, so we stayed focused on that. And it made the conversation so much fun.
It wasn’t a late night, we enjoyed our Kindred date night and we were still home by 8:30, but getting out just for a bit, eating good food and talking without the interruption of “watch this twirl” every few minutes had us saying how we need to make date nights more of a regular thing. Will we make it happen? Only time will tell π
Happy weekend friends; I hope you have a wonderful one!

Looks amazing! Something about starting a meal with a nice glass of wine just feels so fancy and itβs so nice to appreciate it without the constant interruptions of living with kids π
