So yesterday went a little something like this…
Woke up hungry. Rejoiced that I didn’t have to dirty a bowl to make oatmeal.
Dirtied a bowl anyways.
Plain 2% Chobani with strawberry jam mixed in + 1 oatmeal cup.
Then I proceeded to get my behind handed to me, yet again, by Tina. 45 minutes of a full body circuit later in my home gym (…ok, bonus room), I was sweaty… and hungry.
After a quick shower and a glance at the clock to see how many minutes of nap time remained, I threw together this:
A grain (quinoa), a green (steamed kale) and a bean (cannellini). A new favorite. Plus herbed goat cheese, a tomato and pepper.
Right on cue, Hailey woke up. I looked out at the sunshine as I fed her and decided we needed to get out of the house.
20 minutes later I learned that Barnes and Noble doesn’t carry the Baby Led Weaning cookbook. Bummer. So instead, I set up my computer to get some work done, but quickly realized I couldn’t connect to wi-fi. I decided to take it as a sign to just eat my snack and enjoy the fresh air with my baby girl instead.
Do you see what I see? She’s not very subtle.
We headed home and I decided that eating again sounded like a good idea. After all, I had to share my snack.
Spinach, greens, boiled egg (yolk shared with Hailey), purple cabbage (because it was in the fridge), feta and Newman’s Own Light Balsamic.
High five for extra veggies!
Someone overdid it with the samples…
Totally kidding. Despite her reaching, I don’t take baby led weaning that literally. I ended up going with Le Freak IPA from Green Flash Breweries. At 9.2%, I’m glad I just sipped on it!
We split an order of fried dough (ahem, breadsticks) from The Salty Caper with some friends. Then ordered their house pie, which was fabulous.
Pesto-ricotta base, mozzarella, fresh tomato and pine nuts. The pine nuts were key. I ate 2.5 slices… if you count giving the crust to Hailey on the third slice as eating only half of it.
After dinner I came home and was assured by my twitter and facebook friends that my need for at least 8 hours a night of solid sleep was totally normal. Thank goodness I’m not alone. I was in bed asleep by 10. It was a good day.
How many hours of sleep do you require each night?
Jen says
Haha, look at her eyeing your food! Too funny. I love her 🙂
Tina @ Best Body Fitness says
We still need to have a workout and beer date. I always drool over your beer pics….and the cutie pie baby!
Brittany says
Yes, we def do! Can’t wait to get together with you one day 🙂
Kristen @ notsodomesticated says
Yum, all of your food looks great!! I definitely need a solid 8 hours, as well. I can do less if need be, but I really don’t prefer to!
Lee says
I would love to get 9 hours every night, but usually get more like 7-7.5 which is fine but not wonderful. I just can’t seem to make myself go to sleep at 10.
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
Your posts always make me wish we did happy hour more often! But with a hubby that doesn’t get home till almost 8 most nights and the fact that he hates beer, it doesn’t happen too often.
Hope you eventually make those tostadas 😉
Brittany says
Tostadas tonight! They look so amazing. I’m excited.
blackhuff says
I’m for 8 hours of sleep per night otherwise I can’t function.
What a great day you had yesterday. Love that you are healthy, eat and train, and still enjoy beer occasionally. Balance is the key here which you do so well.
Jenny says
Agree with the props for balance from Blackhuff. Looks like a great day and I think I’m going to try those oatmeal cups ! They look almost as yummy as that pizza 🙂
Heather says
I love the pic of her eyeing the apple. She looks like she is trying to levitate it off of the table. I only need about 5 to 6 hours of sleep a night to function normally. But my dad is the same way, so I think I inherited his side of the family on the sleep thing.
Lindsay @ The Lean Green Bean says
i gotta start putting eggs on my salads again. yum!!
Beth says
Love sleep! 8 hours I feel good and can function, 9 I feel great! I usually get 7.5 and hope that soon I can get 9 again, someday…it is just so hard to go to bed early after baby goes to bed because you finally have time to yourself.
Hope you are having a great week!
Sara says
You may have discussed this before but how do you deal with feeding Hailey if you’ve had a beer or two? My son is now 5 weeks old and I am breastfeeding but would LOVE just one glass of wine but obviously don’t want it to affect him.
Brittany says
It’s really easy now because Hailey goes to bed at 7:15 and sleeps until morning, so I can easily have a drink or two after she goes down and it’s totally out of my system by morning. If I am going to have a beer earlier, I usually make sure at least 2-3 hours pass from the time I drink it until she feeds again, but if I have any doubt, I’l give her a bottle of frozen milk and pump later.
You’ll be able to sip on a glass soon, and it will taste SO good 🙂 Remember that alcohol metabolizes out of milk the same way it metabolizes out of your blood stream, so there is no need to pump and dump except for your own comfort.
Congratulations on your 5 week old!!
Sara says
Awesome, thank you so much for the info! I already have my favorite bottle of wine ready to open and enjoy soon! 🙂
Jamie @ Don't Forget the Cinnamon says
Your salads look so yummy!
And I also am an 8hrs a night kind of girl 🙂
Amanda Perry @ Sistas of Strength says
Totally normal. I need at least 7, but definitely prefer 8. I’m up early so I usually go to bed around 9pm. 🙂
Lauren B. says
Pre-pregnancy, it was 7 or 8. Now it’s 9 or 10! Oh- and we found out Friday we’re having a BOY!!! 🙂
Brittany says
Oh my goodness, CONGRATS!!!
Sarah says
8 or 9, depending on the time of the year (and the time of the month ifyouknowwhatimean). That’s NORMAL. I cannot seem to convince those around me though. Sigh.
Madeline @ Food Fitness and Family says
Em is the same way with food. She reaches out and tries to grab it. The other day I was eating lunch on the couch and she snagged a carrot like lightning. 🙂 YAY for good eaters!
chelcie @ chelcie's food files says
that pizza looks SO good!!
ErikaMC says
Have you changed Hallie’s milk amount any now that she is eating food too (it’s probably hard to tell if you are still nursing)?
Also, how do you get her to nap so long in the afternoon? Our son will take a 2-hour long nap at daycare during the week but at home on the weekends I’m lucky if he takes an hour nap.
That pizza looks soooo good!
Brittany says
I still nurse her 5 times a day. I’m not sure in ounces how much she takes each time because it’s straight from the source. From what I’ve read, milk still provides the bulk of their nutrition until around 1 year, so they probably won’t decrease the amount of milk they drink.
Also, don’t give me too much credit on the afternoon naps! The past 2 days, I’ve been lucky to squeeze 30-40 minutes out of her in the afternoon. I think it may be the sunlight pouring through the window? Who knows, but I’m hoping to fix it!
Sarah says
Lovely meals! I LOVE Le Freak and am lusting after one now. I used to live in Raleigh and my husband and I would share them all the time. We live in Atlanta now where sadly, Green Flash Brewery beers are not all that common. Enjoy!
Nicole says
I would kill for 8 uninterrupted hours…or even 6! Amelia was sleeping great until she mastered rolling over, now she is waking up screaming on her belly! Ugh! It’s amazing how little sleep a person can function on!
Belinda says
I absolutely need my 8 hours! I like to be in bed around 10pm preferably. Not too long ago my partner and I were out unusually late and I went bed at 3.30am – I swear it threw my whole week off! I’m such a grandma 🙂
Also the fried dough looks deliiiiish!!! My Nonna used to make something similar called ‘zipoli’ and they were deep fried heaven!
Jen says
pizza and beer is my favorite and huge bonus when i can enjoy it outside. what a yummy day of eats!
