On our second full day at the ranch, we had planned for our second horseback ride. We had some morning shuffling because both mom and Hailey opted for hiking on the property, which allowed Kris, Cara, David, Kyla, Kaitlyn, and me to all get to ride together.
After breakfast, we dropped Lacey at Kid Camp, watch mom and Hailey take off on their hike, then loaded onto our horses. Kaitlyn and Kyla seemed like naturals at this point!
The ride was a bit longer this time, just shy of two hours, and I did feel like I got more comfortable stopping Collin’s constant snacking. The views were unreal, too. We weaved through the forest, through fields, and over streams. So beautiful!
We got back to the ranch around noon and ate lunch on the porch of Horn and Cantle.
Most of our crew went on a guided hike on property that afternoon, but Kaitlyn was exhausted, so we stayed back to shower and rest. Some others cut out a little early, too, and soon enough all the girls were sprawled out on the couch listening to Circle Round podcast stories, proof they were flat worn out!
They seriously stayed like that for over an hour!
Finally we got them moving again with the promise of a horse drawn wagon ride to dinner. We got dressed and head down to Horn and Cantle. On Sundays the ranch offer a BBQ dinner up on the ridgetop, but with the rain predicted, they changed the location to a large tent in the woods. We lucked out that the rain didn’t cancel our wagon ride; it was exciting for the kids!
The whole evening was a blast. The buffet was delicious (the kids devoured mac and cheese and watermelon), but the real hit of the evening was the live band, which had people line dance and twirling around the little dance floor. We ate and danced while the rain came down. It was a small crowd which made for such a fun time!
We turned in for the night on the early side, as we knew we had to be up early the next day for an adventure into Yellowstone!
