ONE
I’m currently on a plane flying to Florida to celebrate Alexis’ bachelorette weekend! We’ve been close since college and I’m thrilled to be part of this celebratory girls weekend in Ft. Lauderdale.
flashback to our girls weekend in Charleston
I will admit, I’m not a big fan of flying. Actually, I’m not a big fan of leaving my family. What can I say, I’m a little attached- wink. I have to be super intentional with myself in not letting fear dictate my decisions, so even though it’s unsettling for me to board a plane, I know I’ll have a wonderful time with my girlfriends once I’m there.
TWO
Balayage. I tried it, and thought I loved it at first, but after a couple weeks I embraced the fact that balayage just makes me look like I have bad roots. I think it looks so good on others, but alas, I can’t pull it off. So on Wednesday I went back in and had my girl Bekah add a few old fashion highlights and now I’m back to liking my hair!
PS- Mom, I apologize for laughing at those pictures of you from the 80’s with your big “bug eye” sunglasses. Apparently fashion does indeed repeat itself.
THREE
Brene Brown. I am fairly new to her work, but I downloaded The Power of Vulnerability on Audible and now I can’t shut up about it. Her insight into vulnerability, authenticity, shame, living a full life, connecting with people on a real level, etc, etc is incredible. Many of her phrases remind me of things my dad has taught me over the years and to hear it echoed in such applicable bits has just been incredibly additive to my life outlook lately.

Thank you all who entered the Rubbermaid Balance Meal Kit giveaway! Your lunch ideas in the comments have ensured I don’t hit a lunch rut for a long, long time. Random.org selected comment #19, so Julie “We love guacamole with wheat pita bread, turkey slices, and cucumbers!” keep an eye out for an email from me!
I hope you all have a great weekend!
I am so excited for girl time and hoping that these dresses (my summer go-to and on sale for $15!) and these new earrings can help me blend in, even just a little, with my fashionista friends.
How often do you get to see your college friends?
For me, it really is only about 1-2 times per year but my goodness, we pack a lot of fun into those times!
Amanda says
I see one of my college friends almost every week. Most of the others vary from 3-4 times a year to only once. It’s always so fun to get together and like no time has past!

Every weekend?! How fun!!

I agree that the wonderful connections built among friends and communities can remind us where we have harmony in our countries, but that’s also because we tend to live among and build communities with people very much like ourselves. I also think it’s entirely possible to both cherish and champion the good things happening in communities and still want to learn about the persistent structural and institutional inequality that marginalized people encounter every day – and to think about our country as our community! I work in a post-secondary institution with people who come from around the world who are becoming some of the best educated humans on earth, and it has taught me so much about how much hostility and nuanced prejudice people experience in our communities. It doesn’t make me jaded, it makes me determined to get out of my bubble, listen harder and try to make a better world!

very thoughtfully put, thank you.

So well put. Thank you!

Beautifully put! I completely agree with your thoughts.
I read the tweet with some of my good friends (and sometimes myself!) in mind that worry and stress so much about all the terrible things going on in the world but if we would just turn off the newsfeed and engage with the people in our community we’d see that there is so much more good than we’d think.

Enjoy your fun time with the gals. Give Alexis a hug from me. Happy for her. And, thanks for appreciating some of the things you mentioned that I taught you.

Wish I could remember all the good advice you’ve given me over the years, but it more so comes to mind in the moment I need it most, which I suppose is even better. Love you, Dad!

Thank you, thank you, thank you for the balyage comment! My old hairdresser refused to do it, as she thought it was “crap” LOL. Then my new hairdresser talked me into it, and I honestly don’t love it! My roots are still so dark, and I have this ombré thing going on. My only hope is it’s the summer and maybe I will get some natural lightening going on….I hope.
Have such a fun weekend! ❤️🌴👙

I kept hoping my roots would lighten a bit in the sun too! However my natural hair color is super duper dark so I was totally kidding myself, ha!

Had to smile when I saw the big sunglasses–then to read the comment below:)
Your hair looks amazing! Enjoy your weekend!

Ugh that link, “the silent tragedy…” I am so guilty of being on my phone too much around my son! We have plenty of active time and play outdoors but I know I’m on my phone too much. He thankfully doesn’t know how to use it at all or any kind of tablet but tv is on in the morning and evening for sure! Great article, thanks for sharing. And, love your hair!!
