Happy Good Friday y’all! Anyone up for a chat over some tea? A little mental download if you will? Great!
Thursday date nights are my favorite. It feels like the weekend, but it reality you have an entire weekend still ahead of you. Our sweet sitter came over at 5:30 last night, which is when David and I were supposed to leave, but he wasn’t home yet. When I hadn’t gotten a response by 6:00, I drove myself out to the patio at Prickly Pear and ordered a margarita.
I try to keep myself in check with the realities of David’s job. He works so hard and we are grateful for his good job, but even after almost 8 years of marriage, the unpredictability and inability to be in communication at will is still a struggle for me at times. Being that I’m a glass have full lady (and after a half empty margarita), I know the pros outweigh the cons, but not being able to plan (anything really), is challenging for my Type A side.
However, within an hour we were reunited at North Harbor Club in Davidson, relaxing at an outdoor table in 77 degree weather, and snacking on pimento cheese crab dip, so like I said, whining = in check.
We were feeling carby, so we split lobster mac ‘n cheese (pretty disappointing) and a shrimp and scallop dish that was delicious!
Mmm… big plate of pasta.
The warmer weather has been such a welcomed change this week.
A friend and I took our girls to the new visitor center at Lake Norman State Park.
It’s really well done. We walked a mile loop around a small lake, which was the perfect distance for our short-legged crew.
Being outdoors, despite the pollen, has made me so happy. I’m grateful for that since sleep has been a bit interrupted lately (and I tend to get grumpy without solid sleep).
I mentioned Kaitlyn started getting up in the middle of the night to go potty and calling us to help. A few people on instagram suggested a “dream pee” similar to a “dream feed” that you do with babies. I loved the idea but after trying to take Kaitlyn silently to the potty at 9:30 pm two nights in a row and being met with crying and no success, we switched to cutting her off from water about an hour before bed time. That seems to be working and sleep is improving.
Life these next two months is about to get busy, in a wonderful, but crazy kind of way. End of school events, seeing family, swim team, a bachelorette party, dance recitals, doctors appointments, birthday parties- somehow everything is happening in May and June! I’m looking forward to all the fun and really hoping I don’t misplace my paper planner. I’d be lost!
With things kicking into high gear and many of our friends registering for kindergarten right now, I’m starting to put all my homeschool plans into action.
Kaitlyn had a ball at The Homeschool Room in Huntersville, and I finally got to get my hands on different math curriculum. For my local friends, homeschooling or not, the store is a great resource for supplemental learning resources and a lot of cheap books (all consignment).
Though I’m in full preparation mode, it’s still crazy for me to think of how we are here, on the brink of kindergarten. Hailey is such a cool kid to be around and we are talking about all the fun things we want to learn about and explore in the next year.
Princess in Black is still her favorite series!
On the docket this weekend is an Easter brunch/egg hunt with friends, church, planting our garden (possibly a little late- we’ll see!), a first attempt at baking sourdough, and dying eggs. I am also going to try and squeeze in some closet swap out action. Spring is finally here in all it’s glory and though the girls are ready to go with dresses, I am realizing my closet probably needs some refreshing.
dress // sandals // hat (sold out – similar)
I’m pretty sure I could through the entire summer with only 3 pairs of shoes: these, these, and these.
But as for clothes, what do y’all wear day to day?
I wear a lot of shorts and t-shirts. This t-shirt is my go-to but I’m going to try these as well. And maybe this cold shoulder tee just to switch things up?
I’d love to wear dresses all day everyday, like this tank dress.
In case you are looking to spruce things up too, my online fashion inspiration comes from: Molly, Megan, Audrey, and Erin.
What do you wear when the weather warms up?
Links are welcomed!
Happy Easter weekend everyone <3

Fellow soon-to-be homeschooling mom here. My daughter too will be starting kindergarten in the fall. Would you mind sharing which curriculum you will be using and why? I’m leaning towards the Sonlight curriculum with Horizons math but I’m still not 100% yet. I’m also really interested in Charlotte Mason as well but with a two year old and a baby at home as well I’m thinking Sonlight would be the best of both worlds. Happy Easter! He is Risen!

I am all about sun dresses! I’m glad your date night worked out in the end, and good for you for making the best of it and getting started on your own! I am a major planner too and that would be tough.

Happy Easter! We have a pretty busy weekend planned as well with 2 family meals, church and a birthday party to attend.
I would also love a post on your plans for homeschooling next year. My daughter is also 5 and entering Grade 1 next year. We were pretty relaxed about things this year (sort of inevitable since we had a newborn), but hoping to get a curriculum in place for next year. I am looking forward to it as well! Its incredible to see her learn and develop with each and every day. I feel so lucky to get to witness it firsthand.
As for clothes, I feel like I am always shopping! Last summer I was pregnant, and the year before that I wasn’t breastfeeding, so it feels like I don’t have any appropriate clothing that fits that I can nurse in! Plus the whole 4 season thing is annoying. It would be so nice to only have to buy one wardrobe.

We love Lake Norman State Park! Such a great place. I had my one very brief moment of postpartum depression last month while staring in my closet at my breast-feeding tanks which I’ll be once again wearing for the next 12-15 months. They are again my staple item, from Motherhood Maternity. I also love my Sanuk Yoga Mat Flip-Flops – got my original from REI, but Amazon carries them as well. I’m treating myself to a new pair π

I feel the same way about Spring clothes. For some reason after winter I have a mental block on what I wore last year!

Love your summer style because it seems similar to mine. And being similar build to you I am curious what size you wear in the Old Navy tee?
Thanks for your help and for your beautiful , authentic blog content!

Hi Jennie! It’s a small. It’s a little long in front, but I think it looks cute tucked in π

My husband does medical device sales and I am with you on how it can be difficult to be at home. He provides for us which is great, but he is gone from about 6am-6pm and then after he puts our son at bed at 7, he logs onto his computer and works for another 1-3 hours usually. :/ I told him if this continues, I think I’d rather go back to work and have him go back to his old work so we can at least be off work together. I don’t want our kids growing up with a dad who is gone 12 hour days and distracted all evening long!

Oh, I wish I could give you a hug! The craziness is no joke. I have issues with his phone ringing sometimes during family dinner and I know he has to get it if it’s the hospital, but I grew up with family time being so sacred/untouchable, so I hate when work interferes. It’s the season we are in though, and it does have its up sides. Life is all about choices, isn’t it?!
