The first day of 2013 started off with the sweetest sounds of kids running around, rain drizzling outside and me realizing that I had neglected all forms of housework for entirely too long.
But first things first. I snuggled with Hailey, then we wandered off to find Dada.
Breakfast began with juice, Juice Plus that Santa put in my stocking, vitamin D and a little spirulina.
After 12 days of indulgence, I’m amazed I’m not sick.
Eggs with cheddar, a tangerine, blueberries and bacon
After hugs and kisses, Chris, Hilary and the kiddos were off and we decided to tackle packing up Christmas.
I’m amazed there were any needles left on the tree after seeing the number that ended up on the floor.
Lunch was traditional for these parts- black eyed peas, collards and tomatoes for luck, money and love in the new year! Thank goodness we had the help of David’s mom and dad because the house was back in order in time for football.
The Dawgs beat Nebraska in a very entertaining game and David’s parents took off, leaving the house oddly quiet. The rest of the drizzly afternoon was spent inside, hiding from the rain.
I think we were all a little worn out. If only she would have stayed cuddled up like that all afternoon, but Hailey’s form of tired out is to run around like crazy. Did I mention that the girl can open doors now?
We bummed on the couch, chased Hailey a bit, relaxed in the playroom and snacked on leftover Peanut Butter Cheerios that my nieces and nephews left behind.
After Hailey was in bed, we ate leftovers before snuggling back up on the couch.
Romaine, sautéed onions, peppers and mushrooms, refried beans, avocado, jalapenos, sour cream and salsa
We watched The Dark Knight Rises, which led us right into bed time.
The bum day was exactly what I needed to get my mind and body relaxed and ready to hit the ground running in 2013. Day 1 of eat-in month was easy and the 15 days of yoga starts today. I’m so ready to feel productive again and get the year going. Maybe I’ll even eat a few more peas and collards. After all, who couldn’t use a little extra luck and money, right?
PS- Munchkin Meals link up TOMORROW!
Thanks for hosting WIAW, Jenn!
Do you have any New Year’s Day traditions?

Oh my! That pic of Hailey on her daddy’s chest is just so darn sweet. Love it!
We undecorated yesterday as well. And I’m most definitely trying to get back to a regular eating routine. Gained 3 lbs over Xmas..doh!
Brittany says
I am up 2-3 pounds from before Christmas, too! Clearly I enjoyed myself 🙂

It seems to have become a tradition for us to go on a long walk outside and put away our Christmas decorations. We also snuck in a little housecleaning and a trip to the zoo with Jackson! And… I pulled out the juicer to start detoxing from my many many days of indulgence! But it was worth it. 🙂
Laura @ Mommy Run Fast says
It was rainy year on New Years day, too! A nice excuse to stay in, do some cleaning, and eat traditional New Years foods (pork and sauerkraut for us). You sound refreshed and ready for the new year!
Elizabeth @ My Neon Running Shoes says
Love the pic of Hailey and your hubs. Priceless!
Kristen @ notsodomesticated says
Looks like a great day. We had a similar one (minus the toddler haha) … we sat around, watched football, and stayed inside our cozy house (it was raining all day). Not a bad way to spend New Year’s!
Tiff says
Lunch looks like a winner! And pb Cheerios? Major yum.
Matt @ The Athlete's Plate says
My New Years day tradition is to lay on the couch all day 🙂
Karey @ Nutty About Health says
Nice pics!! Nope, no New Years traditions here. Just a nice, relaxing day… an a short workout, of course. 😉
Danica @ It's Progression says
I’m missing rainy days right now…5 degrees and snow isn’t my ideal kind of weather! We don’t have any traditions for New Year’s Day except be lazy and catch up on sleep with an afternoon nap since staying up until 2am is difficult for us old people now 🙂

I felt the same way packing up Christmas. There were pine needles everywhere, but I also felt like I reclaimed the house.
Your daughter is adorable, and your day of eats sounds and looks great.
