Did you think I’d fallen off the face of the earth? I kind of did this past weekend! We spent Memorial Day weekend with a group of friends in the middle of nowhere, Virginia. No TV, no cell phone, no computer. It was awesome.
So how did we fill our time without having twitter to check into every few minutes? Amazingly, it wasn’t that difficult 😉
We went on the ‘advanced hike’ and wasn’t that the truth! 7 miles and quite the incline led us to some gorgeous views! It was Baby D’s official first hike.
I was so proud and got 1 or 2 good-for-you’s from fellow hikers. I’m so glad that Jane Marie packed snacks, though, because the time I reached the top, I was fading fast.
We stayed in our friend’s house by the river and took full advantage of the cool water. I decided to forgo the tube and used the canoe instead. Pregnancy approved!
We each signed up for a meal to bring before the weekend and ate like kings the whole time! The Dixon’s dinner dish began in the morning…
and ended up looking something like this that night:
Plus a side of YUM
We played some games, including horseshoes (I think I had just gotten a ringer!):
Koda chased baby frogs:
And we all explored the local wildlife:
Mom- that snake picture is for you 😉
All in all, we had a fabulous getaway weekend! I wish my allergies would have been a little more calm and I’ll look forward to being able to join in on the beer sipping down the river, but with a group like this, it’s always a good time!
Oh, let’s be honest… we’re really a little more like this…
Needless to say, I’m playing catch up today, but will be back tomorrow in full blogging force!
Do you ever just completely unplug from the world?

The corn and black bean salad is one of my “go to” dishes during the warm months – so freshing! Looks like you guys had a blast this weekend and now a short week, yippie!!! 🙂

Looks like you had a wonderful stress-free weekend and congratulations on hiking! You set such a great example not just for all mothers-to be, but for everyone! Thank you! Love those weekends when you can get away from technology…I have a little “withdrawal” at first, but the remainder of the time is stress-free and allows you to reconnect with your friends, family and yourself!
Liz @ IHeartVegetables says
What a fun weekend!!! I love black bean, corn and peppers all mixed together with some lime juice and cilantro. So simple but so delicious!
Allison @ PickyEatingRD says
I am allll about unplugging from the world! I get secretly excited when I am at our cabin and we don’t have much cell phone service. My boyfriend could stand to use a weekend of being unplugged though!
Amanda Perry @ Sistas of Strength says
Looks AWESOME! I love weekends like that. Sometimes you really need to just unplug and get away. Looks like you had great company and great weather to boot!

beautiful pictures. love the belly shot up top! i’m happy to hear that you were able to hike and feel okay (other than hunger!). unplugging is definitely necessary sometimes. we locked our computers and cell phones in the safe for the whole week in jamaica! it was wonderful.
Melissa @ Be Not Simply Good says
What a gorgeous hike! And I’d say good for you, too. 🙂
I’m usually not on the computer much or at all on weekends. It’s nice to get away from technology sometimes. It’s for our convenience, after all, not to tie us down.
Erin @ The Grass Skirt says
What an awesome weekend! I don’t unplug nearly as often as I should, and even when I unplug, I am never completely unplugged. I need to work on that!
Maria says
Ahh! Your mom and I both aren’t a fan of snake pictures!
Oh Virginia, I miss you! I did a very hard hike this weekend and I’m pretty sure if I was as preggers as you, I wouldn’t have made it. Good for you!
Sarah @ The Smart Kitchen says
SO much fun! I’m jealous. 🙂 My dear friend from college is getting married in about two weeks in the middle of Virginia, and I can only HOPE to have as much fun!

I’ve been MIA too, but still stuck in front of the computer trying to get the new blog going. Looks like a fun getaway, and good for you on the hiking–wow! I feel your pain when it comes to allergies–took a 20 minute walk with my little one and I’ve been suffering for hours because of it. Ugh!
Corey @ the runner's cookie says
Unplugging is awesome and SO needed once in a while. Looks like the perfect weekend! So glad you had a great time and I hope the allergies calm down a little!

What a great weekend! Great pictures and what a beautiful view! We both did hikes this past weekend.
I completely unplug from the world at least once a year when I go on my yearly backpacking trip. I look forward to it all year long when I can just get away from everything. : )
