After two 4.5 hour car rides, 2 ferry rides and multiple golf cart rides, we are back from a wonderful weekend at Bald Head Island! It was like our mini version of trains, planes and automobiles. We crashed in on Mema and David’s bro (plus his wonderful family) to squeeze in a weekend away. Not only was it great to see everyone, it was incredibly refreshing for me to break our routine and see the beach. Traveling with a two year old and a two month old isn’t necessarily easy, but it was totally worth it.

Instead of a play by play, I wanted to share a few of the things I’d like to remember…

Like how the set up on the beach with little ones is a bit elaborate. Friday was overcast and not too hot, which was perfect for some beach time with the whole fam. Kaitlyn was happy as a clam (beach pun intended) in her shaded pack and play.

Does this scream over protective mom or what?

One of my favorite things from the weekend was watching how much Hailey loved playing with her cousins.

I was pleasantly surprised that she ditched wearing socks and shoes for the weekend (bare feet take some getting used to for her) and embraced the salt and sand. I think between Hailey and her cousins, they picked up every shell on the beach.

I was proud that I didn’t stay behind my cover-up the whole time. Putting on a bathing suit made it glaringly obvious that I am not back into the physical shape I am comfortable with yet, but I still jumped in the waves and splashed in the pool.

Kaitlyn was such a great sport. She napped on the beach, by the pool and even in the golf cart. I am grateful that she’s a pretty easy going little gal.

I must touch on it again. Hailey LOVED being with her cousins. She pushed through naps (not without consequence to us at times), and loved joining in on the big kid activities like glow sticks after dark and golf cart rides.

David and I even got to sneak away one night for our first post-baby date night. Not a bad spot for such a momentous occasion.

We went all out and I dove head first into what is certainly my favorite meal ever.

Hailey was pretty pumped to sleep in the same room as her cousins, which worked flawlessly for one and a half nights. However, after falling out of bed in the middle of night two, I scooped her up and she slept with us for the first time ever. As she was fading back to sleep she flopped her little arm over on me and kissed me on the nose. I’m definitely sticking that one into the memory bank.

All in all, it was a GREAT weekend. Some play and some relaxing with family was exactly the breath of fresh air we were all after.

Koda included.
