It’s been a fun week around here! After Hailey was sick last week and David got food poisoning, we were ready to get out there and enjoy summer (which I realize doesn’t actually begin until June 21st, but 93 degrees says summer to me). We’ve been to the splash pad more than once, Discovery Place Kids and have a pool party this afternoon. Though pinning down burntwo wiggly kids to apply sunscreen is tedious, I’m really loving all the activity! And on that note, here are a few other things I’m loving lately…
My new foam roller! After talking to my trainer, Daniel, at Burn Boot Camp about how to stretch the muscles along the outside of my shin bones, he suggested foam rolling. He also said to opt for the one with the solid, hollow core since over time the ones that are just foam get too ‘squishy’ and become less effective.
So far I’m really liking the hurt-so-good pain of foam rolling. Speaking of BBC, here is an at-home version of a workout I got from owner Morgan. Mountain Climbers have been killing me lately, but the shoulder burn is starting to make a visual difference so, YAY!
So after the workout comes the shower right? Well I am SO excited because we are able to start using our new shower TODAY! The master bath renovation has gone fairly smoothly, but I’m itching to have it finished up. Final inspections are today and then we are just waiting on mirror frames and another final touch or two.
A sneak peek! I LOVE the size and water pressure of our Moen Wynford shower head and the versatility of the twist handheld! Those handheld showers are so wonderful when washing dogs or kids and I expect ours to get a lot of use. So close…
Speaking of showering…
My hair is thick and wavy/curly naturally. I often let it go natural during the hot/humid months (I’m always looking for curl cream suggestions!), but I do like to blow it straight occasionally. After talking to my stylist, she recommended this Aveda Smooth Infusion.
I’m not usually one to buy the suggested products, but I gave this one a chance and it’s made a big difference! It truly cuts down on my dry time and helps smooth out my wavy/frizzy tendencies. A little goes a long way and though I think it might be a little too powerful for those with finer hair, I highly recommend it to thick haired/unruly haired girls like myself!
Baby Pasta. (Not the official name).
This small elbow pasta has been a staple around here lately. It’s the perfect size for little fingers to grasp and easily chew. Whether it’s simple with butter and a sprinkle or Parmesan or tossed in marinara, it’s been an easy dinner addition lately.
Speaking of eating, can I say I’m also loving Kaitlyn’s appetite lately? It’s like as soon as I shouted out that she was more particular in her food choices, she’s wanted to prove me wrong and has been gobbling down almost everything I put in front of her. Now, when she is done eating, she is DONE, but when she’s hungry she is becoming a good little eater.
While we are on baby meals… these.
We’ve tried many a sippy cup around here and while I love these for older toddlers/kids, the Munchkin Click Lock cups above and the only ones I’ve found that don’t spill when catapulted off a high chair or thrown across a room. Please tell me that is how your child uses sippy cups too?
Am I get a bit wordy for a Friday? I’m almost done. I just have to share this cute baby blue version of Lilywrap!
I love this reusable, stretchy wrap almost as much as I love not having to wrap presents. Ha. The baby blue dots are new to me and I’m excited to show them off at a baby shower I have this weekend.
Ok, let’s wrap this party up with a glass of vino…
David worked late last night so after I got the girls down I poured myself a glass of cab (currently Robert Mondavi) and sat out back with Koda. It was so relaxing that it wouldn’t be right to have a whole ‘what I’m loving post’ without mentioning how much I’m loving WINE. Something about sipping a glass at the end of the day is so darn wonderful and if that makes me a walking cliche, so be it.

Any curl cream suggestions from my curly-haired gals?

Just curious…..how is Koda feeling? Any update?

Thanks so much for asking! She is doing really well. Her treatments are every other week now and she is taking to them great. She is in remission and feeling like her old puppy self. The treatment extends quality life by a year on average, but we are hoping for longer and just enjoying her as much as we can. It’s kind of a morbid thought process, but I don’t let myself think too much about the future. Right now we just spoil the heck out of her with swimming, peanut butter and snuggles. <3

Alexander is notorious for throwing his cup off his highchair tray.
Also, I use L’oreal EverCurl Sculpting Gel (or something like that) with Bumble and Bumble Curl Conscious Holding Foam. The B&B is really expensive but you only need a little bit. My hair is a lot curlier than yours though.

i use the same Aveda product and love it. My hair is wavy with a slight curl so it loves to get frizzy.

I love the DevaCurl line of products for my thick, curly/wavy hair. If you go to their website, http://www.devacurl.com/ you can find which of their products are right for you. I sometimes use their “Low Poo” shampoo and “One Condition,” however one thing I am consistent with is the “Arc Angel” gel. I first apply a leave-in conditioner to reduce frizz, such as “Its a 10” (not their line). Then I use the gel. It is great because it doesn’t leave my hair crunchy. Prices are usually best on Amazon.

I love Paul Mitchell Twirl Around curl cream. It’s amazing for curly hair!!

if you are looking for a good curl cream, try one of these: Not Your Mother’s, John Frieda Beach Waves, or Victoria’s Secret beach spray. All good!! NYM’s in my fave though!!

Can’t wait to see more of your bathroom!
And to tame my coarse hair, I use Garnier Fructise Moroccan hair oil. It’s a cheap drugstore find that actually works!

I love all the curl creme recommendations! I use: Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Intensely Smooth Leave-In Conditioning Cream, Garnier Fructis Style Curl Calm Down Anti-Frizz Cream, Strong Hold and Shea Moisture Coconut Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie. The Coconut stuff is really thick, but great for right after washing your hair, the rest are great for every-day styling.
Brittany Dixon says
I love all these recommendations too! There are so many good ones!

I also use the Deva Curl products on my wavy/curly hair. I turned “Curly Girl” 2 years ago and never looked back. It is so freeing to wear my hair naturally wavy. I use Low-Poo shampoo, One Condition (sometimes) and Ultra Defining Gel. Mist-er Right is great for reviving second day curls!

Wine is so wonderful! Your bathroom is looking beautiful! I can’t wait to see the rest!

For those whose curly hair tends to be dry….I’m thrilled with an expensive product from Ulta: Lee Stafford
My hair was dry and breaking so I got the choice: Treatment for Hair that never Grows past a certain length.
I only use a dryer after shampoo, but not at all during the week since my hair is now is great condition. Very manageable.

Yay for new showers! We FINALLY get to start using ours on Sunday! Cannot wait!
Brittany Dixon says
Hope your first shower was fantastic! 🙂

My son actually bit out the water restricter on his sippy so yhe water comes out faster and then slams it on his tray to splash it up.. I’ve got my hands full with this one.
Brittany Dixon says
Oh man, haha! Good luck mama 😉

My sister has curls and loves Miss Jessie’s Pillow Soft Curls!

I love that foam roller from Trigger Point. They have the best ones! It’s my DIY chiropractor for my back.
And you are not the only one who’s child catapults the sippy across the room. But at least yours will use a spill proof cup. The flow is not as easy with the spill proof cups so my 17-mo refuses and the only ones he will use leaks everywhere when he throws (which is all the time). You should see the inside of my car! He loves to toss it to the side, and it leaks all over the side of my car.

I live and die by Aveda products! Smooth Infusion is the best. Your end of the day ritual sounds wonderful!

For curly hair – kinky curly knot today leave in. I love it! You can get it at whole foods and target. I don’t like the kinky curly gel though.

I have that same foam roller in orange, but I like the pretty pink color a lot more!!

How does the reusable gift wrap work? Do you ask the person back for it after they open the present or do you give it to them to reuse ?
Brittany Dixon says
I just let them keep it to reuse! It’s like giving an extra gift 🙂
Alyssa @ Life of bLyss says
Okay, I totally made Brittany (the other one!) wrap our gift for this weekend because she likes doing it (and is way better at it than me). I MUST INVEST IN THAT GIFT WRAP!
I can’t wait to see you!!

Have you ever mentioned what kind of work your husband does? I assume something in the medical field since he’s been seen in scrubs and sometimes works unexpected weekends. Sorry for being nosy! I just enjoy hearing all about your fun family! Wine is good! I enjoy a chilled Gewurtztraminer on a hot day! Otherwise I do enjoy a nice Malbec. I gave myself permission to indulge a glass a day now that I have my almost 10 month old! Before he came along I was super strict with myself. Now I’m “living” a little more! Cheers!
Marie says
I was curious about this too!
Brittany Dixon says
He’s in medical sales! He gets to rock the scrubs because he’s in the hospitals all the time and has a weird schedule since it follows the surgeons’ schedule. Crazy unpredictable schedules…. 😉
Erin @ The Grass Skirt says
We love those sippy cups too! I’ll have to try that Aveda stuff. My hair is very…puffy lately. LOL.

I have wavy hair too! I will definitely try that Aveda cream! I was surprised because I straightened my hair today (I washed it last night though) and despite the humidity, it’s still not that frizzy. Maybe the trick was washing it yesterday. But my hair can get crazy frizzy. If I don’t blow dry it, I have to use mousse and gel in the summer to keep the frizz under control.
Katie says
I’m not curly, but I love all aveda products. I especially love buying their big bottles of shampoo / conditioner as they last forever and make my hair feel so wonderful! Also, relaxing with wine is so important. Keep it up, it’s only a cliche because everyone knows how wonderful it is.

Ive worked with infants and toddlers for 10 years and those are my fave cups!
Kelli H (Made in Sonoma) says
I’ve loved wine for quite a while now, but I seem to always love it even more in the summer…not sure why that is. Last night David and I opened a bottle of mulderbosch rose from South Africa and it was so delicious. I love a dry rose on the back deck in the summer.
As for curly hair products, I have realllllly curly hair so I use a mixture of Enjoy Shaping lotion and Paul Mitchell Mousse. Keeps my curls tight all day long.

My absolute favourite product for my curly thick mop of hair is Moroccan Oil Intense Curl Cream. It’s a thick and goopy consistency. It provides moisture and hold while also giving shine and I apply it straight after a shower. It works a lot better than a stand alone oil or serum which tend to weigh my curls down and create more frizz. It does cost 44.50 in Australia (no idea how much that is in USD) but it’s a huge pump bottle and a Godsend
