Hailey is 3 months old today! That’s just nuts. I still picture her as my little newborn peanut, but after looking back at her pictures from 2 months ago (reminiscing already? Lord help me on her wedding day), it’s clear to see she has grown so much.
Besides just looking at her and her clothing size (which is typically 3-6 month), it is evident she is growing in her development. She smiles all the time… except when there is a camera is her face. Sigh… I wish she’d let me capture it! Instead, she usually gives me this face:
She babbles a lot and is loving all the funny noises she is learning to make. She laughs at herself a lot.
She reaches and grasps things now, which is wonderful… except when it’s my hair- yowzers!
She still has a love affair with books. She was crying the other day and didn’t want to eat or wiggle or bounce… but I opened a book and like a switch, the tears turned off and she was all smiles.
She is rolling over from front to back AND she rolled over back to front… one time… yesterday. I guess she wanted to squeeze that milestone in before she turned 3 months- haha!
Her hair is falling out and growing in at the same time. Except for the ‘party in the back’. It hasn’t fallen out at all, which leaves her with an awesome hairline. Hubbs calls her Friar Tuck.
Now that she has discovered her hands, they are always in her mouth, which has me more vigilant of Koda to make sure she isn’t licking them.
She is still as wiggly as can be, but her tongue stays in her mouth more than it did previously. She is no longer the little lizard child she started off as. And she wiggles herself into some pretty interesting nap positions. Hey, whatever works for ya, kid!
I don’t know how much she weighs, but I feel like she’s big! Maybe it’s just me, though, because she is still in size 1 diapers.
I haven’t touched on what our day to day looks like since she was 5 weeks old, so I thought I’d update you. I’ve never implemented a schedule or routine, I’ve just followed Hailey’s leads, though over the past week or two I’ve been writing down what she does at what times, which has helped me predict her schedule. So here’s what we’re up to:
6:30 AM | Wake up. Feeding takes about 15 minutes. I change Hailey’s diaper, dress her and play with her while eating breakfast. |
8:00 AM | Nap. Sometimes she naps resting in the boppy, sometimes I will use the loose swaddle and put her down in the Moses basket. I blog and get dressed. |
8:45 AM | Hailey wakes up. Change diaper. Read books until I see she’s getting hungry. |
9:20 AM | Feed Hailey. 7 minutes each side. (I don’t mandate that- it’s just what it happens to be). Then we do tummy time or read books. Maybe we’ll run errands or she will sit and watch me while I work or play in the kitchen. |
11:15 AM | Hailey is sleepy- another nap! When she is sleepy, it’s clear. She rubs her heavy eyes and yawns. I pay attention to these signs closely, otherwise I risk her getting overtired, and that’s no fun for anyone! While she sleeps I do laundry, make phone calls, take care of other to-dos that have piled up. |
12:00 PM | She wakes up! Diaper change. |
12:20 PM | Time to eat. I feed Hailey, then grab lunch myself while she relaxes on the couch. We go on a walk, or run errands. The child gets bored staying inside too long and being under stimulated will make her cry. Usually there is a dirty diaper thrown in here somewhere, too. |
2:00 PM | Nap time. If we’re out, she will sleep in her car seat, otherwise it’s in the boppy or on our bed. |
2:40 PM | Wakes up! Again, we change a diaper and play. Usually she will play by herself next to me a few times a day so I can do emails and work on the computer. |
3:30 PM | Hailey eats again. We do more tummy time, play with Koda in the yard, read books (our ‘play gets a bit repetitive, but everything we do is new and exciting to her- it’s so cute!) |
5:15 PM | Last nap of the day. I spend this time picking up the house, emptying the trash, prepping dinner… orrrrr catching up on Gossip Girl 😉 |
6:00 PM | She’s up! 45 minutes tend to be the max for her naps. She’s a cat napper. After a fresh diaper we’ll dance around to music or read books while I watch the news. We usually take a leisurely walk outside to the mailbox and back to let Koda run. |
6:45-7:00 PM | I watch for hunger signs and try to hold off as long as possible. But when she is hungry, I feed her for the last time. I let her take her time and try to get her belly stuffed full. |
7:30 PM | Bedtime routine! Bath, dry, fresh diaper, double swaddle, then rock with dad in the glider until she’s asleep. Down and out by 8:00. |
8:45 PM | 45 minutes into her bedtime, she usually wakes up and cries. One of us sneaks in without talking to her, puts the pacifier in her mouth for about 5 minutes, turns the sleep sheep back on and she’s back out for the night. |
I almost hate posting schedules because everyday is different. The rough breakdown is that Hailey eats 5-6 times a day (6 if I’m topping off the tank before she goes down for the night). She naps 4-5 times, all 40-45 minutes each.
She gets more and more interactive everyday and when a rough moment comes along, it only takes one big smile to make me forget all about it.
Busy? Oh, heck yes. But loving it? Absolutely.
What is your favorite age babies/children to play with?
Mandy Robinson says
Being a proud momma myself, I am of course going to say one year. The constant babbling cracks me up. She will stand in front of you and babble on like she is telling you a story. She is also learning to run (which is really just a fast walk), nothing like a good game of hide and seek. Each day it just gets sweeter. 🙂

Where did 3 months go? I feel like you just had her. It has been so fun to read your journey through pregnancy and now motherhood.
As a mom I have always loved the current age/stage more than the one before. I loved when my son was a peanut, but also loved when he could walk and play. I loved each age for different reason. So given that my my son is almost 2.5 I will say 2.5 is the best age. I love all that he can do and watching his language develop. Baby boy #2 is due in April and after having a 2.5 yr old I have no idea how I will go back to an infant, but I know that when he arrives I will once again love everything about having a little one and enjoy some cuddles as my son is way to busy to ever sit on my lap:)

I can’t believe it’s been three months! She is so adorable, I love her silly faces 🙂 How have you been feeling, I was wondering if you miss being pregnant at all. As I’m approaching the end of my pregnancy I feel like I’m getting a little sad! But then I look at pics like yours and they make me even more excited to meet my daughter!
Brittany says
I think I’m in the minority, but I don’t miss being pregnant at all. I love being able to fit back into normal clothes, feeling like my old self and getting to dote on Hailey while I hold her in my arms instead of my belly. I know a lot of people do miss being pregnant though, so I recommend video taping the wiggles in your belly because it is amazing that I already sort of forget what that feels like, but I love watching the video I have of her bouncing around 🙂
I’m so excited that you get to meet your daughter soon. It’s incredible!

I love your updates! Who knew something so small could be so time consuming? She seems like a happy Baby!
Lindsay @ The Lean Green Bean says
ahahaha the friar tuck thing made me LOL. she’s adorable

I am so glad you posted this! I sometimes have a little internal freak-out about whether or not I should be trying to impose a schedule on Nolan. (I haven’t been so far.) It’s a relief to see that they DO fall into a sort-of schedule on their own (and I can see that Nolan’s getting there, too.)
Brittany says
I’ve had moments where I think ‘uh oh, should we be on a definite schedule by now?!’ but then I step back and see that she is growing, happy and this is working for us. So screw what anyone else (including the experts) say 🙂 If things get to where they aren’t working, we’ll reevaluate.
You know your baby best!
Tiff @ Love Sweat and Beers says
Precious! Look at that smile. 😀 You two seem to be having a lot of fun together.
By the way, the “friar tuck” nickname cracks me up!

That first picture of her “reading” is SO ADORABLE. Seriously precious.
(Also – this post totally ups my baby fever!) 😉
Madeline@Food, Fitness, and Family says
She is just so stinking cute!! I love seeing the milestones and what you do each day … gives me some ideas for Em! Seriously, she is adorable 🙂
Susan @ Real Life Travels says
Every month I catch myself saying This is my favorite age … they get more fun each month! 🙂

So should I dare ask if Hailey is sleeping through the night. I have a daughter who will be 12 weeks tomorrow and she is starting to give us a 5-6 hour stretch so I am getting up once a night to feed her.
Brittany says
I hate to say anything and jinx us, but she is. She goes to bed at 8, wakes up 45 minutes after for about 5 minutes, then is out until 6:30ish. I’m crossing my fingers that it stays this way (or she starts sleeping even longer :))
Jen says
How is she 3 mos already?! Seriously, where does the time go? She is just so darn precious. I cannot wait until Wyatt sleeps more than 1.5 hours at a time at night. I hope it happens soon!
Samantha @ Health, Happiness and Skinny Jeans says
Hailey is absolutely adorable!! ( I think I say this at least once a week 🙂 )
My favorite age is between 1-2 but truthfully I just love babies and toddlers!!
Sarah says
OMG Friar Tuck! So cute! That made me literally laugh out loud in my cubicle. So much for discrete blog reading at work…
chelcie @ chelcie's food files says
loved reading this post Brittany! It sounds like you definitely have your hands full!

Gaah! I can’t believe she’s 3 months old! Which means my niece is 3 months tomorrow! Crazy!

It’s funny, I love reading about babies and have had so much fun watching Hailey grow but, I am not really comfortable around babies in person. I don’t ever want to hold them or anything. That’s how I know I’m still totally not ready for my own. haha.
Brittany says
Even though I grew up babysitting, I was not comfortable holding other people’s little babies until Hailey came along. I think when it’s your baby, you quickly realize how tough the little buggers are 🙂
Heather says
Brittany she is so cute! I love reading the updates and seeing the pics!
Rachelle says
Hailey is absolutely adorable! Love the picture of her with her hands in her month. My little Alana is the same way, except with her middle and ring fingers leaving the others out and flaring like toys lol. Question…where did you get that little purple seat for her? I want to get one… my munchkin is nearing 5 months and having troubles strengthen her back. I do tummy time religiously, but I think something like that may help.
Brittany says
I got the bumbo at Target (about $35 I think?). We still can only use it in little spurts since we’re still working on her head control, but it’s a great little seat to tote around the house with me!
Emily Malone says
Love it! It’s so nice to see what other moms are doing. Our babies both have funny hair, and I think it’s so cute. I wonder what it will look like when it all fills in!
Parita @ myinnershakti says
Hailey is so unbelieveably adorable! I love all these pictures!
My favorite age is 4. I think it’s because my sister was such a cute 4 year old and that image is stuck in my head. 🙂
Brittany says
My niece is 4 (well, just turned 5) and I agree with you so much! 4 is such an adorable, sweet age!
RhodeyGirl says
A few thoughts…
1- Looks like she likes tummy time more! How’d you get that to happen?
2- I haven’t been reading enough to Raffi. After reading this post I tried reading him a book when he was being a crab and OMG you are so right. He immediately stopped crying and just stared at my mouth.
3. Hailey is super cute.
Brittany says
She only likes it in little spurts… we do it for 5-10 minutes a few times a day. Don’t let the happy pictures fool you, she still ends up screaming face down in the mat when I let her go too long 😉
Lindsay @ Schnoodle Soup says
Her looks are really developing now…she’s turning into her own little person and losing that “newborn” look! So cute 🙂
Philippa says
Holy moly that is one cute little girl!! I think it’s great you are making the most of this time, listening to my neighbours arguing with their teenagers makes me think I will value the ‘baby time’ when I have one myself! 😉
Kristen @ The Concrete Runner says
Our schedules look very similar! Except M will sleep anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours! And she’s not quite sleeping through the night yet, but getting closer! I don’t think it’ll happen until we start giving her the rice cereal to tide her over a bit longer.
Hailey is a doll! I think I will freak out the day M rolls from back to tummy. She has tummy to back perfected now, but I’m not quite ready for her to roll the other way!
Brittany says
Oh I’d love for H to take a 2 hour nap! That must be so nice to have some time to get things done during that long nap. When do you plan to start with rice cereal? I know absolutely nothing about cereals and solids… guess I need to start reading up!
Jen@FoodFamilyFitness says
SO cute!!! Aiden used to be a cat napper as well, and then one day he went from little naps to two long ones and then just one long one. He’s almost 4 and still naps for at least 2 hours every afternoon.
Jen says
she is so adorable and you seem to be settling into mommyhood beautifully. so glad you have a schedule that seems to be working for now. love the pic of her with her tongue sticking out! 😉
Katie @ Pop Culture Cuisine says
I find it so interesting to read the schedules of other 3mo. lil’ ones in the blog world, because it is so fun to see just how different every baby is, and what works for one might not for another. The thing I constantly struggle with is trying to remember not to get caught up in what everyone says and do what just works for us. I struggle each day because although we have a definite night time routine and that helps her sleep most of the way through the night, we are no where near any sort of consistency during the day, I just try to follow her cues and that seems to be working well for the most part, however I wish things happened at the same time each day. Ahh well the joys of a newborn I suppose 🙂
Eli says
I was wondering if you could do an updated schedule. My baby boy was born a few weeks after Hailey and he is also a cat napper. Does Hailey wake up happy after only 45 minutes because I’ve noticed sometimes he wants to sleep more but just won’t do it.
