Good morning from the coast! Well, actually, from just off the coast. Saturday we loaded up the car and made our way to Southport, NC before taking the ferry over to Bald Head Island.
We’re spending some time with all the Dixons this week and couldn’t be more excited! We probably also couldn’t have packed any more stuff if we tried.
We’ve wasted no time getting into the swings of beach life. From water wrestling
to shell sorting
we’ve been soaking up the gorgeous scenery.
Don’t let this sweet smile fool you though.
Hailey has had a heck of a time adjusting to the sand. She really doesn’t like her feet being dirtied up with sand and water and has pretty much clung to Mema nonstop. Any tips to help her better adjust?
Despite the fear of sand, she is loving being with her cousins. She’s certainly worn out from all the excitement, so we had to take a break from the beach to let her nap.
I used the break for yoga, so it was well-used time by all.
I can’t believe it’s only been one day. We’ve already experienced the beach,
the pool, a birthday
and an impromptu dance party.
With only golf carts allowed on the island, exploring is so much fun. Something about not having to get in a car makes it feel even more like vacation.
Now I’m off to help with breakfast and take over Hailey, as David will actually be driving back and forth all week thanks to his work schedule getting a bit wacky. Luckily Koda promised to keep the party going in his absence.
Hope you all had a great weekend! Now, off to soak up some more fresh ocean air…
Did you/do you take a summer vacation?
Where to?

How fun!! What about trying water shoes for Hailey to wear at the beach?
I just spent an entire week up north (here in Michigan) with family. We rented a house near Traverse City with my sister-in-law, her husband and kids. It was the first 7 day vacation any of us had taken since college and we explored lots of different beaches and beach towns. Back to reality today, waking up at 6 am was tough!

Bald Head Island is our absolute favorite vacation spot! So fun to see you enjoy it too! My husband’s boss has a house there so we try to go every summer. Nothing like the peaceful, secluded quiet of BHI..and lots of fun driving the golf carts all over the place 😉

Yay how fun!! Hope you have a great time (:

Claire hated the sand too. We left shoes on her and tried to keep a towel relatively clean for her to sit on, but let me know if you have any luck! The one trick I can share is baby powder works wonders for getting sand off. We used it on Claire when she would get covered and we didn’t want to take her back to the water.

We’ve gone to St. Augustine for a week every summer since I was born. We love it there! I hope you enjoy your vacation!!

Water shoes worked great for Avery last year when she was Hailey’s age. we got ours at Target or walmart. Maybe if they have a beach store you can check there or maybe David could scope a pair out before he gets back to the beach if she’s still having trepidation. Either way, she will outgrow it soon enough! This year Avery could care less! Have fun! We have a family home at Ocean Isle, but I have told Jayson I really want to explore other NC beaches over the next few years and Bald Head is on the list! Have a great time!

Looks like so much fun!
Is it ever surreal to think about how Hailey won’t actually remember all these amazing times?

Looks like a great time! We usually take off for a week each summer, This year we are heading to the west coast (Vancouver Island) where neither of us have been, should be fun!

I love that y’all are making the most out of summer! My favorite childhood summers are those we spent with family – eating, playing games and creating new memories!

Between this post and the kath eats posts that always seem to be at bald head island, I really need to go on vacation there! It seems so gorgeous!

I’ve heard so much about Bald Head Island and wonder how it compares to my beloved Outer Banks (except for the whole car thing). Looks pretty perfect to me though!
Have a great time!

soooo jealous…I love the beach so much. We’re going to Wrightsville Beach in Sept and I can’t wait. Although, we’ll have an almost-2.5 year old and a 3 month old in a room with us…that situation sounds a bit dicey 🙂 Hope it’s relaxing enough!

Swim socks! My daughter was the same way at that age and swim socks were the key! Good luck.

Aw I love family vacations like this. So nice!

Baby powder will keep the sand from sticking to her feet, as long as she does not wash it off in the water.
Have fun in the sun!

Looks like fun!! I think that is so interesting that Hailey doesn’t like the feel of the sand….I seriously wonder what Nia will be like!! And I think that’s every kids dream to only have golf cart use! hahah sounds like a blast so far!

Impressed with your well-done forward bend! 🙂 We just got back from a week up in the Adirondacks of New York- we go every year because my family has a cabin up there. I can never decided if I love the lake or the beach more. Anywhere with water and sand is fine by me!
Giselle@myhealthyhappyhome says
What a fun vacation spot! I love that there are only golf carts! That would make exploring so much more fun.

Love all the pictures and updates. Hope Hailey can get some shoes so that she can run on the beach with her cousins and enjoy it!

Looks like a blast! So glad you’re all having a great time. We do a shore trip every summer, too — there’s just something so special about it — and I’m also hoping to squeeze in a trip to Jamestown, NY this year (want to see the Lucy-Desi Center!). Enjoy the rest of your vacation!

What an awesome time you all are having! Enjoy every second of it and I love how you used some of the time for Yoga. Tomorrow morning is my Yoga morning 🙂

Looks so fun! I love beach vacations!
We took a road trip to NH in June, with stops in Chicago and Niagara Falls along the way. We camped a week in NH in the White Mountains. We will be taking another road trip next month, since it went well the first time. 🙂
Summer is going way too fast! Enjoy the rest of your vacation!
