Happy fall, y’all! Have you heard the word cheugy? It’s a word that the young people are using to poke fun at lifestyle trends of the early 2010’s and at millennials in general. Think “live, laugh, love” signs and #girlboss and pumpkin spice lattes.
It’s a funny sounding work that David and I love to laugh at. Anyway, yesterday was the first day of fall and though we spent it on one last surf day of the season (both girls got in a long run!), I also admired my pumpkins and new, completely cheugy, doormat. It makes me giggle every time I see it. Cheugy or not, it’s staying.
That’s an elaborate story just to say happy fall, yall! Right? (That saying is apparently also cheugy, by the way). But happy fall. I’m hitting up a hot pilates class today and the crisp air is going to feel SO good afterwards. I also planned out our meals for next week, so let’s talk about it-
I’m not in a rut, but I am in a little bit of mental fatigue with thinking up dinners, so I’m taking the easy route next week and planning only dinners I know will get a positive reception. No one talks about the mental load side of being the one in charge of meals, do they? Sure there is the shopping, the prep, and the cooking. But there is also the planning, the remembering to defrost, and the hoping that everyone will eat it without complaint.
So while planning meals for the week, I said to myself, “self, how can we make this upcoming week a little easier for you?” and I responded with- keep it simple. Simple for me means picking dinners I know everyone loves, that I’ve made so many times that they’re almost mindless, and that I already have meat in the freezer for (Butcher Box is offering an Instant Pot promo right now).
Sunday: David’s Famous Chili with cornbread
Monday: Salad, baked potatoes, leftover chili
Tuesday: Marinated Chicken and Noodles with salad
Wednesday: Chicken fajitas with Mexican beans and rice
Thursday: Hamburgers (and burger bowls) with freezer fries and salad
Friday: out to eat
Breakfast: eggs and avocado toast
Lunch: cheese quesadillas, fruit, veggies
Weekend plans:
- Soccer games
- Set up new computer
- Live music with friends
- Decorate with Halloween decor
- Update Amazon storefront
- Grocery shop and prep
- Plan upcoming blog posts (grocery spending, meals lately, working on gift guides (sounds crazy, doesn’t it?), a few recipes I want to share, and I’m open to requests!)
- Enjoying the fall temperatures that arrived today!
What meals are your easy go to meals? And do you have any things or habits that might be considered cheugy? A few more: jean jackets, “gather” signs, and …brace yourself… loving Disney as an adult. In the words of the iconic Stephanie Tanner… how rude! 😉
Happy weekend, friends!

I just enjoyed my easy and favorite tomato based beans/potato soup! I can eat this everyday and we would save a lot of $$ on groceries too lol. I’ve never heard of cheugy. My boys are younger or maybe it’s because I’m older! I’ll have to ask a teenager. Your dinners all look delicious! Have a nice weekend!

I’m so excited to get into soup season! They’re delicious and comforting AND like you said, help save $ at the store 🙂

Yes the mental fatigue of meal planning is not something I enjoy! Doing my backwards meal planning has helped a little but then I have to come up with something on the day of.
I’ve never heard that word but think it’s hilarious because I am not a pumpkin spice season person. At least not for th PSLs and gather signs hehe. I also always laugh at the live laugh love signs.
I do love fall though. Especially since we’re getting cool mornings and the days aren’t so incredibly hot. We can go on walks now and bike rides again which is wonderful.
I still can’t decorate for Fall until October 1st thigh. 🙂 then again my fall decorations are only Halloween decorations.
Brittany Dixon says
What are your favorite Halloween decorations? We just put some up but the kids are telling me we need more! I’m thinking spider webs because you get a lot of bang for your buck 🙂
Kelli says
We don’t have a ton. We have some spider web lights and skulls from target many years ago. We have some inside decorations like a little banner for our mantle. We also have some Halloween books that I don’t pull out until October though we’ve definitely already read Halloween books from the library. Haha
We have done the spider webs with spiders and those do give you a lot of bang for your buck!
