We often get on food kicks over here. Doesn’t kicks sound better than ruts? And lately, wraps have been our thing! I’ve made breakfast wraps and salad wraps for myself, but I’m not the only one who is enjoying the trend. Hailey has been joining in too!
I’ll fully admit that my main draw to them is their simplicity. Simply grab a tortilla of choice (we prefer La Tortilla Factory’s brand if we can find it- it’s amazing how many tortillas contain hydrogenated oils and these don’t!), layer, roll and slice!
Here are a few of our current favorites:
Ingredients: Wheat wrap, sharp cheddar cheese, Applegate Farms deli ham. Steamed green beans on the side with olive oil, lemon juice, salt, pepper and garlic salt.
Method: Place two slices of ham on the tortilla, then shred or thinly slice the cheddar to layer on top. After about 30 seconds in the microwave, roll up while still warm (the cheese helps it stick together). Allow it to cool and slice with serrated knife.
Optional Dippers: Mustard or ranch
Health Benefits: Whole grain energy from the wrap, staying power of protein from the ham and cheese, a green veggie for phytonutrients and olive oil (on the beans) for some healthy fats.
Ingredients: Wheat wrap, natural peanut butter (or almond butter), banana, strawberries, local honey and chia seeds.
Method: Cover the wrap in a thin layer of peanut butter. Thinly slice strawberries and banana and place in single layer. Drizzle with honey and sprinkle with chia seeds. Roll up and slice with serrated knife.
Optional Dippers: Put honey on the side instead of in the wrap if you child is into dipping.
Health Benefits: Whole grains from the wrap, staying power of protein and fat from the peanut butter, phytonutrients from the fruit, healthy omega-threes from the chia seeds and and allergy-fighting properties (and deliciousness) from local honey.
Ingredients: Wheat wrap, sharp cheddar cheese, refried black beans, red pepper.
Method: Cover the wrap in a thin layer of refried black beans. Thinly slice red pepper (into strips or a small dice) and place in single layer. Sprinkle with shredded cheddar and microwave for about 30 seconds. Roll up while warm, allow it to cool and slice with serrated knife.
Optional Dippers: Salsa or plain Greek yogurt whipped with lime juice and cilantro.
Health Benefits: Whole grain energy from the wrap, protein from refried beans, phytonutrients and a pretty pop of color from the red pepper, and avocado for some healthy fat.
Of course, the wonderful thing about wraps is that the possibilities are endless! Some other delicious and nutritious combos include:
- Hummus, shredded carrots and cheese
- Veggie cream cheese and thinly sliced cucumber
- Almond butter with slivered almonds, raisins and honey
- Pizza sauce, cheese, olives
- Smashed avocado, thinly sliced tomato, natural bacon
- Cream cheese, cinnamon, shredded apple
Are you a fan of wraps?
What are your favorite flavor combinations?

I love wraps! Too bad my son is just a little too young to enjoy them, hehe. My old go to wrap was with hummus, tabbouleh, grilled chicken and spinach. Yummy!

I love your munchkin meals. My 21 month old is sooooo super fussy and I get so many ideas to try. So far, we still aren’t successful. Hopefully someday soon I’ll have something to link to, but my guess is that pasta pictures would not be that exciting….
Thanks so much for hosting these!

I’m a big fan of wraps but for some reason haven’t really introduced them to my toddler yet. I bet he would love all of these combos!

I may have to try a few of these for myself for lunch next week!

How did I not think of this? My son has been kind of picky lately, so these might be just what I need to mix it up a bit and get him to enjoy his meals. Plus, I bet he’d love to help prep the tortillas by sprinkling cheese and other things. I never even considered doing a fruit wrap, but I love that idea!

Great idea with the wraps! Question: Did Hailey ever go through a vegetable strike? I have the hardest time getting veggies in Hunter. It frustrates me to no end!
Brittany Dixon says
Hm, she has definitely gone through highs and lows with certain foods, but not an entire food group. For example, she started out LOVING black beans, then went through a time she wouldn’t eat them. I phased them out a bit and brought them back occasionally a few weeks later and she eventually started eating them again. I never really acknowledged it because it usually is a phase and for our house, I don’t implement clean plate club or ‘must have one bite of this’ or any other rules. I choose what is on her plate and when it is served and she can choose what and how much of it she eats.
I wouldn’t stress too much because I’m sure it’s just a phase! Stay consistent and offer other vegetables in the meantime maybe?

Thanks, Brittany! This comes at the perfect time, as we are in a rut with Parker’s school lunches. He has the banana/PB/honey wrap combo often. But doing the refried beans one and the pizza one are awesome options! Going to give these a try for sure!

You’re thousands of miles away from family and friends;
you’re far from confident about handling a major project in one of your company’s branch offices halfway across the country; and all
you want to do is crawl to bed in your temporary apartment.
“We’ve found that extended warranties usually don’t make financial sense, and when we took a close look at the terms of those service plans we found other reasons to avoid them. This is because most of the people who will be viewing the Olympic Games would hire their cabs at the airport.

I love wraps it’s just so hard to find a good gluten free one that won’t crumble when you roll it.
