The mom and me version of last week’s WIAW seemed to be a hit, so I kept it around for another week. Although I’m an advocate of feeding your baby anyway that works best for you (purees, baby led weaning, spitting into their mouth like a bird… ok, that’s kind of gross to me!), these posts definitely illustrate why BLW works so well for us. Hailey and I get to eat together and prep work is minimal (BONUS!).
Mom Breakfast
Cantaloupe and eggs scrambled with spinach, onion and mushrooms. Topped with goat cheese and Texas Pete.
Baby BreakfastHoney I shrunk the breakfast, right? Mini cantaloupe (local, non-organic) cubes with pieces torn off on my scramble (just egg and organic spinach pieces).
Mom Snack
Leftover sweet potato chili, topped with plain Greek yogurt.
Baby Snack
Even with 3 meals a day, Hailey nurses 4 times, too. These are her snacks.
Mom Lunch
Whole wheat tortilla, topped with Lindsay’s spicy feta dip (great on wraps), broccoli slaw, spinach, onions, cannellini beans and a drizzle of Italian dressing.
Baby Lunch
Whole wheat tortilla with mashed black beans and cheese. Broccoli (frozen, organic) on the side.
I also ate 2 carrots and hummus while Hailey finished up. (Please notice Koda in her usual mealtime position.)
Pre-Yoga Mom Snack
A mix of LOVE Grown Granola, dried pomegranate seeds and some California Walnuts they sent me to sample. It’s an energy-packed snack and a great blend of carbs and fat before yoga-ing.
Baby Dinner
We were rushed once we got home, so Hailey’s dinner consisted of some (frozen, organic) peas, (conventional) sweet potato and (organic) red pepper. All cooked to be soft.
Mom Dinner
We ate some homemade Chick-fil-A with grill roasted broccoli. BBQ sauce for dipping.
A bit later I snacked on some Pretzel Crisps and leftover spicy feta dip while I sipped on Throat Coat. My throat isn’t feeling up to par still from the weekend. Guess I can’t hang like I used to!
What’s your favorite hot tea?
I love throat coat, but my mom hates it!

I love seeing what you feed Hailey. Mainly because I’m nosy.
Brittany says
Haha, not nosy, adorable!
Lisa @ The Splattered Apron says
Love this! Did Hailey eat the whole quesadilla? I’m asking because lately I’ve been wondering if I’m giving Caroline too much food. She’s still nursing 4-5 times a day and eating 3 meals. She and Hailey eat very similar meals–I love seeing what all of our babies are chowing down!
Brittany says
She ate almost all of it, though I did end up cutting some into small pieces for her. Those bottom two teeth could only handle so much 🙂 The quesadilla was made with 1/2 a tortilla, not a whole.
I love seeing what other are eating, too! Post more of Caroline’s! 🙂
Kristen @ notsodomesticated says
It’s very interesting to see how things are going with Hailey’s eating. Definitely keep us updated! 🙂
Lindsay @ The Lean Green Bean says
yay! so glad you liked the dip!!
Paulina says
So, does Hailey bite and chew the tortilla wedges? I’ve done my own strange combo of BLW and purees for my girl.
Brittany says
She does! I should have probably mentioned that I ended up cutting a couple slices into small pieces for her to pick up. Her two bottom teeth can only handle so much!
Pam Gordon says
They all look delicious!!!

Love these posts! Quick question about BLW…is it ok to start doing BLW even after giving purees? I have been giving Emmie rice cereal for a few weeks, but would like to try a more BLW approach once she turns 6 months. I didn’t know if the new texture would confuse her.
Brittany says
As soon as they can sit up unsupported, BLW is definitely an option. I don’t think it would be too confusing for her, but the only way to tell is to try 🙂 They’ll get it eventually because they won’t be eating purees forever. Just do what feels right to you and Emmie.

throat coat tea is seriously magical..i use to drink it all the time back when i did a lot of musical theater before my shows!
all of your eats look delicious!..i love that koda likes to lay right under Hailey when she eats haha
Brittany says
oh my gosh, yes! I’m addicted to throat coat. It does it’s job so well.

I’m obsessed with hot tea and enjoy all kinds: earl grey, matcha green, sencha green, white ginger peach, but my favorite come from Teavana. I blend the loose leaf orange citrus and youthberry white. It’s very refreshing.
Brittany says
I’ve been meaning to go back to teavana. I loved the youthberry! Their store made me want to become a “real” tea drinker 🙂
Lauren B. says
How did you do research on BLW? Is there a book or website you would recommend?
My fav tea is Sweet Cinnamon Spice, can’t remember the brand but they have it at Starbucks. Especially yummy during the cooler months.
Hope your throat feels better very soon!
Brittany says
I mostly read the Baby Led Weaning book (though I hear the cookbook is more helpful). Even though I wasn’t wowed by the book, I’d recommend reading it because it does offer a thorough explanation. After reading it, I just got impatient and decided to go ahead, slowly, of course. It just so happened that it ended up working for us!
Lauren B says
Thanks for the tip, Brittany!

I love David’s Tea, basically any of their flavours rock! I want to try Lindsay’s spicy feta dip, it looks awesome. And now I’m craving some quesadillas!
Rebecca @ Blueberry Smiles says
Hailey’s mini-meals are so cute!! She seems like she isn’t very picky, which is great!

Hailey’s meals look yummy. Loved that you pointed out your dog’s regular mealtime positions — too funny. At least it saves you the vacuuming!
Geraldine says
Both Mommy and baby’s lunch look delicious! I rarely eat wraps but this has given me a few ideas. Love that you feed your kid such natural and nutritious food. I hope when I have kids (in a time far far away) that I can emulate that!

I’ve never commented on your blog (which I follow regularly :)) but this is a topic that I am incredibly passionate about. My husband and I use natural family planning (in which there are 3 most common methods – sympto-thermal as you described here, Creighton model (essentially sympto only), or temp only).
I love NFP because I feel as though it respects a woman’s body and natural cycles. Birth control happens to be the only pill/drug prescribed by a doctor that takes something that works (our fertility) and breaks it. It’s quite contradictory to what medicine is supposed to do for us. With NFP, we are taking something that works (fertility) and learning to love that we were made with a natural rhythm and cycle. My husband respects my natural cycle and we can learn the virtue of self control and mutual respect during times of abstinence (which are not that long).

Just realized I commented on the wrong post! Sorry!

your egg scramble looks SO good. For some reason, my eggs never turn out quite as fluffy and delicious looking as yours.

I LOVE the throat coat tea!! I got it at a Bulk store here when I was sick with something like strep throat (but without the white bumps) and it was a skeptical, nothing-else-is-working-might-as-well-try-it kind of purchase, and it helped when nothing else did! 🙂
