Hi! How was your weekend? Ours had some fun ups and some literal downs, but was a good one overall!
Friday we drove down to David’s folk’s place in South Carolina. After hugs hello, the girls beelined right for the giant tub of random, mismatched Legos, which is one of the best garage sale finds Mema ever scored.
We lucked out with a pretty day that wasn’t too hot so we were able to sit outside with the help of the breeze. Then we ate dinner outside, too! This a rarity for mid-summer in the south, so it felt like a treat.
We stayed on the porch until dark chatting with Mema and Grandpa. As we were getting ready to head in for the night, David was taking Finley down the side stairs. Mema asked “want me to turn on the lights?” to which David replied, “no, it’s fine.” Not two seconds later we heard a crash and poor David was sprawled out on the landing. Apparently he had missed the last stair and took a tumble that severely sprained his ankle.
We got ice and Ibuprofen and a ACE bandage as quickly as we all could move but the thing still swelled up like a small balloon. It probably hurt like heck, too. The event gave us all a shot of adrenaline but we eventually fell asleep for the night with David’s ankle propped up on about 4 pillows and me googling “electric scooter rentals at Disney World.”
David and I had planned to have a day date visiting the Traveler’s Rest area on Saturday but I figured we’d scratch that. However, he’s a trooper and insisted we go ahead with the (modified) plan. He iced his ankle on our way over, then wrapped it up. We were fortunate that Mema had crutches on hand.
Our first stop was Tandem, a highly recommended creperie in Traveler’s Rest. The line was long but moved along quickly. You order outside at a VW van, then go inside to eat. We scored a bar seat and enjoyed the most delicious Mediterranean and Fiesta crepes with one hot latte and one cold vanilla draft latte that was excellent!
Traveler’s Rest is a thriving creative and outdoorsy community about 20 minutes from Greenville, SC. Our original plan was to hike around in the area or perhaps on a portion of the Swamp Rabbit trail, like we did with the kids in 2021.
Since David wasn’t moving around with an ease, we opted for driving around and checking out a nearby farm (with chickens!). We also stopped by the Saluda River. It ended up being a highly enjoyable day seeing the area, watching the bikers and other outdoorsy people, and picking out things we’d like to do in the area in the future.
In the afternoon we drove into Greenville and split some fried green tomatoes and a fried Nashville hot chicken sandwich at Nosedive, a restaurant located at The Westin hotel in downtown Greenville. We didn’t get to wander the cute downtown area or Reedy Creek Park much, but I was just thrilled we got to go into town at all.
We headed back late afternoon to the house, finding Mema, Finley, and the kids splashing around in the lake upon out return. We had BBQ for dinner and let the waterlogged kids watch a movie while we hung out on the back porch. It was such a nice weekend!
Sunday we headed back home, and I hit up Whole Foods for turmeric (I’m bringing back wellness shots this week, hoping the turmeric will help with David’s inflammation), Costco, and Food Lion. The girls have basketball camp this week and we’ll be doing school in the afternoon. I’m interested to see how that goes! Meals for this week include:
- Slow cooker meatballs over spaghetti
- Spinach and artichoke chicken with lemon pasta
- Greek burgers with tzatziki
- Chicken enchiladas (make one, take one)
- Spinach and ricotta stuffed shells

It looks like a beautiful weekend minus David’s fall. I’m glad he didn’t hurt himself more than he did, and y’all were able to enjoy your day date. I missed a step many years ago, and broke my ankle. I will never forget that experience for sure!!
Have a great week!!☀️☀️

Have you made up a better story than missing a stair? 😉 I told David he needs to create some heroic tale instead, haha!
Hope you have a great week!

That is such a bummer about David’s ankle! How scary. I’m glad it didn’t ruin the whole weekend.

Poor David, such a trooper! Just wanted to say that if it’s still swollen, it could be fractured or broken? My Mom has broken both her ankles in recent years (just random falls) and both times she was convinced it was just sprained since it wasn’t super painful and she could still weight bear a bit. It was just swollen on both occasions.

Eeks! He might get it x-rayed one day this week when he’s at the hospital for work. I’m not sure if it’s better to be broken or sprained 😬

What a Beautiful Part David’s Folks live in – such a Lovely weekend aside from the fall and ankle! Hoping it’s healing well and that rest along with your tumeric shots help speed it along in time for the upcoming Disney travels
What a Blessing to enjoy those sunsets in that gorgeous setting ✨💖✨

Thank you so much; just had him down the turmeric shot so I’m sure he will be healed by tomorrow 😉 🤞🏻

Love this! Your day in TR and Downtown Greenville has me excited to be home for the next few months. I’m a travel nurse currrently in Florida (I don’t mind being a few miles from the beach!) but I’m excited to be in our condo a mile from Main Street in Downtown Greenville! And a quick 15 min drive to TR. 🙂
Sending David healing vibes that he is ready to go for Disney. Keep it iced, wrapped, & elevated! (Which is see you’re already doing!)

I’m so excited for you and your new location! Will you be there long? Greenville is such a great town with great food and vibrancy!
