If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve seen me sharing what I make for dinner each night. It’s been a fun venture for me to provide complete transparency behind the pretty dinner pictures. My hope for this is to show real life family dinners from the kitchen of what I’ve deemed “good enough” (making dinner isn’t about perfection).
I think feeding our families has been made out to be a complicated task, when it doesn’t have to be. To combat this falsehood, I’m sharing my process, my short cuts, and how I serve family style meals- on nights when I have time to cook as well as the nights I’m rushing between soccer practice and Tae Kwon Do. It’s been really fun and great way to connect over real life.
One kitchen appliance I’ve been sharing more than others is the Instant Electric Precision Dutch Oven.
The Instant Electric Precision Dutch Oven is an appliance I was drooling over before Christmas for several reasons:
- It’s 5-in-1 abilities to braise, slow cook, sear/sauté, as a cooking pan, and to keep warm
- Precise control over cooking time and temperature
- Heavy-duty enameled cast-iron cooking pot is removable, oven and stovetop-safe and looks beautiful
- Dishwasher-safe cooking pot and lid for quick and easy cleanup
- BPA/PFOA/PTFE-free cooking
Instant Brand offered to send me one for me to try, no review necessary or strings attached. I jumped at the opportunity and have been using it often. The more I’ve used it, the more I’ve loved it’s one-pot style of cooking and easy of clean up and knew I needed to write a full review for you.
I have my fair share of kitchen gadgets, but am not one to get caught up in trends that don’t work for my personal cooking style. I think that’s the biggest point in gadgets- finding the ones that work for you, your cooking, and your lifestyle.
For me, that means my bread machine, my rice cooker (I chose this one for it’s ceramic insert but need to do a full review because I have a few pointer tips for this one), and now this Instant Electric Precision Dutch Oven.
My favorite feature: The sear/sauté mode! This feature is why I originally chose the slow cooker I have, but I do not like it’s non-stick lining that is starting to flake. The enamel cast iron Dutch oven, by contract, won’t flake yet still allows me to sauté garlic and onions in the same pot before adding my other ingredients. Or sear meat before switching to slow cook. It’s fantastically convenient.
Dishes I’ve made in it: Roasted chicken and vegetables, black eyed peas, bone broth, beef stew, and I’ve even proofed dinner rolls and baked them. It’s incredibly versatile as it has the range of 85-400 degrees with a time range of up to 12 hours (for slow cook), and an automatic “stay warm” feature.
Bottom line: Being able to choose the “precise” temperature for the precise amount of time (thus it’s name sake) takes the guess work out of cooking and allows for maximum flexibility for dishes that can be prepared in it.
I was asked if I could make the same dishes in a regular Dutch oven, and the answer is absolutely! In fact you could use the beautiful one that comes with this appliance on the stove top or in the oven, like any traditional Dutch oven. This appliance simply allows for more control over the exact temperature and time, ensuring the ability to precisely cook what you desire.
If you’re new to a Dutch oven, this Instant Electric Precision Dutch Oven will help get you over the intimidation factor and teach your how to use it to make everything from soups to cobblers.
I’ve had a lot of fun learning to use it, and rearranged my kitchen a few weeks ago to give it prime cabinet real estate, kicking my slow cooker to the back shelf. If you have any questions that I didn’t address, please feel free to ask in the comments.
And if you have a favorite Dutch oven recipe I should try, please send it my way! 🙂
