Weekly Moves is a program available via app from Madeline Moves. It’s a strength-based program that makes working out fun and fresh! Here’s my experience…
I’m trying to remember when I first signed up for Weekly Moves via the app from Madeline Moves. Maybe 8 months ago? Maybe a year? I honestly don’t recall, but I can tell you that over that time period I’ve become hooked. Madeline varies her workouts, and while they are always challenging, they are doable and leave me feeling accomplished- physically pushed but not overly exhausted.
My favorite things about the service are the quality of the workouts, the ease of having an app that is accessible from wherever I’m exercising, the instructional videos for each exercise movement in case I’m unsure of form, it’s adaptability to be done from a gym or home (as long as you have some basic equipment), and the fact that both David and I can do the same workouts. We workout together nearly every single day and I love that the workouts are also a challenge for him; he just uses heavier weights.
What is Weekly Moves?
Weekly Moves is a paid subscription service ($20 a month or $200 a year) via an app compatible with IOS and Andoid. They are workouts designed by Madeline and each week, on Sunday, five brand new workouts load to the app covering all muscles groups: Upper Body, Lower Body, Cardio + Core, and Full Body. Each workout takes 45-70 minutes to complete, based on if you choose to add the optional last circuit or extended cardio. However, she also offers direction on how to do each workout within 30 minutes in case you need that option.
Why Weekly Moves?
I was tired of googling for random workouts to complete whenever David and I went to the gym. Not only did it take time, the workouts varied on quality and length. I decided to look for a strength-based program that outlined exactly what I needed to do each week to hit all muscle groups. I mentioned this on Instagram and several friends recommended checking out Madeline. I have been hooked ever since.
Madeline Moves FAQ
Is it good for beginners? I think so! She is very encouraging to begin at your own pace and recommends dropping a round of each circuit (doing two rounds instead of three) while you build strength and stamina. The instructional video snippets for each exercise help guide you through proper form.
Is it a HIIT workout program? While some moves incorporated will get your heart rate up, like adding in 50 seconds of jumping rope between exercises, my personal opinion is no. It’s more of a strength based program. However, I feel she does a great job of keeping things mixed up. Some day will be lower weights and more reps, while others are the opposite. I’m never bored!
What equipment do you need if doing the workouts from home? Ideally a range of dumbbells, some resistance bands, and a step/workout bench from my experience. She also recommends a kettlebell and a medicine, but I have been able to complete all workouts just fine without those.
Do you have to count macros? Absolutely not. In her Tighter Together challenge, offered seasonally, you get a breakdown of your macros included in the purchase. While Madeline does discuss macros and nutrition on her Instagram stories, the workouts are not intricately tied to macros. Personally, I have my breakdown, but do not count or track them.
Any negatives to the program? I’m scouring my experience, but honestly, no. The only thing I can come up with is that my shoulders are often quite tight; I feel like we focus on them a lot. But that’s reaching!
Do you do all five days? Yes, now I do. I started just cherry picking two or three for the week, but now we do the workouts as outlined Monday-Friday and I appreciate how each muscle group gets attention. I typically take Saturdays off and just focus on movement like a long walk and Sunday, we try to get in a run.
What’s the best part about the program? Honestly, it’s just fun! The workouts always keep me guessing and I’m never bored. I always feel proud once I complete a workout because they challenge me. I highly recommend the program!
Any other questions? Leave them in the comments and I’ll be sure to answer them!

I have been on the fence about getting this program…I think you have convinced me. Do you think I should try a month rather than paying the $200 off the bat??
Thanks in advance!
Lauren

Tough call- in hindsight I would have bought the year, but I feel like $20 a month is still a good price for what you get. I’d recommend trying one month first though, to make sure it’s a good fit for you. Then you can upgrade to the year if it is π

I agree that it’s sometimes best to just buy a program that’s all ready for you, rather than trying to search and balance a routine on your own. I tried Kayla Itsines’s BBG program for that reason, which definitely got me results, but it is HARD! This program by Madeline sounds like it might be slightly more my speed, lol.
Brittany Dixon says
I’ve done one of Kayla’s workouts before and it was great, but definitely brutal π

I actually started MM maybe a month or so into stay at home this spring bc I was looking for reliable workouts and saw you raving about her in the past. I was desperately missing my gym bootcamp style workouts and I was also teaching Bodypump (I like group fitness π ) I’ve been so pleased with MM! The workouts are really great! Comprehensive, yet always a little different mix to keep things fresh and keep you working for it! It’s much more strength focused than what I was doing in the past but I really like it and think it’s really probably a better balance of strength and cardio for me. More intentionally structured but still getting in what I need. It’s a good thing! And I love how you can scale things to make it more challenging or less depending on your needs. So happy you have talked about this program and that you’re now doing a full review! I’m not returning to the gym right now due to COVID concerns but I might just continue with the MM program indefinitely!

Is it a video in which she does all the sets with you or do you watch the instructions and then do it on your own?
Brittany Dixon says
No, it’s written out with exercise name, number of reps, and number of rounds. With each exercise there is a demo video you can view to ensure you are performing to move correctly.
Caitlin says
Do you think I could work MM into my existing cardio routine? I have a Peloton bike that I love and my 20-30 min rides do wonders for my mental health, but Iβd like to work on strength!
Brittany Dixon says
Definitely! When I’m going for a shorter strength day, I reduce each circuit by one round (only do do instead of three, etc). Still a great workout!

Iβve been wondering about doing MM and stumbled across your review. Thanks! Do you know if you Can you see the workouts/moves on an Apple Watch? Also, would you recommend starting with the app or TT?
Brittany Dixon says
I don’t have an Apple Watch so I can’t speak to that, but personally I recommend starting with the app. TT was a fun intense period, but I really prefer the daily workout set up.
coco says
have you done physical measurement since you started this program? in term of body composition, what has been the biggest changes?
Brittany Dixon says
Mainly feeling stronger over all- opening jars, carrying boxes, etc. I can see a physical difference in more lean muscle, too. My favorite thing has to be that it’s just mindless. I don’t have to think about what to do; I just open the app and it is all there for me π
Erin says
Do you need a full set of dumbbells for this program? Or would an adjustable set (like Boflex) work as well?
Brittany Dixon says
An adjustable set would work great! We have a lot of mismatched dumbbells and the adjustable bowflex. I mostly use 5s, 8s, 10s, and 12s, but it’s nice to have the heavier weight options for things like chest press.
Tracey says
Can you do a workout twice from the weekly moves? If I did it earlier, would my spouse be able to do it later?
Brittany Dixon says
Yes you can. Sometimes if I really like one of the workouts from the previous week, I will go back and do it again. I think you can access at least a monthβs worth of workouts at once.
