I have something I need to confess in the spirit of staying honest. Remember how I shared how we ditched the paci? Well it was working just fine until yesterday afternoon. We were having all sorts of fun in the play room when Hailey grabbed a backpack to fill and discovered her long lost pacifier. The kid’s eyes lit up like the fourth of July and the first thing out of her mouth was take my dog back.
I was not prepared for this so I stuttered over a quick, um, it looks really dirty sweetheart, but it was too late. Hailey was already twirling in circles and singing to her paci.
I went to “wash” it for her and cut a hole in the tip. When I handed it back to her, she acknowledged it was broken. I offered to throw it away for her but she went and tossed it in her bed then took out a pen to draw a picture of her big girl bed and her paci with a giant grin on her face.
I know. I’m weak. But I didn’t know how to react! Plus, you guys, she was so, so happy. I guess right now I’m just waiting to see if the broken paci loses its appeal. Weak, I tell you.
Her smile was about this size when she found the paci, though in this particular picture, the giggles are from Koda licking peanut butter off her feet. We really know how to kill some time on a rainy afternoon around here.
Onto nursing tanks!
When I nursed Hailey I had a couple of nursing bras from Target. They worked out ok, but this go ‘round I knew I’d be nursing a lot more on the go. I was looking for something of quality with structure and support.
Bravado Designs offered to send me some items to try out and I’ve really loved them. My favorites are the Essential Nursing Bra, the Bliss Nursing Bra and the Essential Nursing Tank. In fact, I’m so enamored with the tank that I ordered two more for myself (they accept paypal-whoop)!
Side note: when Hailey saw me taking pictures of myself, she insisted on being in the shoot.
I did not direct her at all, yet this still happened…
Posing like mommy! Have I mentioned how much I love this kid?
Anyways, the tank. With the summer heat, I’m absolutely loving throwing on these tanks with shorts and running out the door. They are cute enough to stand on their own for errands, play dates and park days. I love their support and sturdy clasps.
The only negatives are sometimes the boob area doesn’t lay smoothly, especially if I’m wearing nursing pads. It takes a few minutes to get the wrinkles out. Also, the clasp is sturdy, which I love, but unlike the bras, two hands are necessary to open and close it. I’ve done it with one hand once or twice, but really, you need two.
Don’t be surprised if you see me out and I’m wearing the same tank every single time. I promise I’m washing and rotating them!
Do you have a clothing item that you absolutely love?
What is it and do you own more than one?
Jaclyn @ BumpSweat says
I needed this insight into nursing tanks. I’m hoping to breastfeed fairly exclusively, so I can only imagine I’ll live in them, and want to have ones that work and are comfy. Right now, I’m always wearing these cotton tanks from Old Navy. They’re stretchy enough to fit over the belly, and I can wear them for a workout or just out and about.
Tiff @ Love, Sweat, & Beers says
Nice tank. Side note though, I also love those shoes! Cute. 🙂
Brittany Dixon says
Thanks! They are my favorite pair. They were actually the bridesmaid shoe for a friend’s wedding I was in a few years ago 🙂

Those mother-daughter poses bring big ol smiles to my face!

Just found out I’m pregnant so I’m tucking this info away until March! BTW, where did you get the jeans ? They look great !
Brittany Dixon says
Congratulations!! 🙂 The tag says Oh Baby by Motherhood and have been my favorite throughout this past pregnancy! I think I got them at Kohls?
Lauren says
Thank you!

The hole in the paci was how we got rid of it. The hole got bigger if needed and we only had one paci. I kept reminding him it was broken and wouldn’t offer it unless he asked and finally one day he didn’t want it.

I love Bravado bras and tanks! I have at least 6 of them, waiting for the next baby to come along, hehe.
Marnie @ SuperSmartMama says
I am going to have to check out the Bravado nursing tank when I’m due at the end of the year. With my first one, I really liked the bras from Pea in the Pod and I tried the nursing bras from Medela (because they were supposed to be compatible with the breast pump I had at the time) but I didn’t really care for the Medela bras. Thanks for the tip!
P.S. I love that your posing in those awesome heels.

Your daughter is adorable! I weaned pacifiers slowly. Eventually they all broke. My son still insisted on them for a while in bed just to hold. My nursing days are over but I loved all the bravado bras.
Sam says
So I don’t have kids, but, when it was time for my sisters and I to abandon our pacifiers my mom would have us “send” our pacis to Madeleine or the Lost Boys from Peter Pan because they did not have mommies and needed comfort…..it seemed completely logical to me as a three year old lol
Brittany Dixon says
That’s the sweetest lie I’ve ever heard! Too cute 🙂

I love nursing tanks for at home, but I don’t feel appropriate in them in public because my nip’s show through. When I have to go out in public, I end up wearing a long ribbed tank under a low-cut shirt, but it gets really hot this time of year to have that many layers. Are these tanks padded at all, or is that just not an issue for you? My work has the bravado website blocked so I can’t check them out until I get home later 🙂
Brittany Dixon says
They aren’t padded, though they have a thick lining. I usually wear nursing pads thanks to leakage, so it takes care of any shining through problems 😉

We ditched the binky by having a “binky fairy” come. One night, we put all of our binkies in a basket outside the bedroom door. We explained that in the morning all the binkies would be gone but in return there would be a special surprise. Worked like a charm. We did end up finding random binkies in cars and such but we just explained that the fairy must have forgotten that one and we would put it out in the basket that night. The fairy would then leave some spare change for my sons piggy bank. He has always been obsessed with filling his bank so it worked out well for us!
Brittany Dixon says
Oh you are so much stronger than I am. If this paci sticks around, we might just have to schedule a visit from the binky fairy too 😉 thanks!
Heather says
Oh, the paci. We want to get rid of our son’s as well, so I think we’re going to try the hole route. Part of me feels bad because he loves those darn things and even has a favorite one, but I can’t stand them!!
Anyhoo – favorite clothes! I have about 10 camis from Target in different colors. Love that I can wear them under other shirts since I’m still fluffy around my mid-section. I also can’t live without my American Eagle jeans – they’re the only jeans I’ve ever found that fit me just right and are actually pretty cheap as far as jeans go, which means I can buy many pairs. :p
Lindsay says
I am desperate for nursing gear. The first time around I bought a lot of Target items and while they were fine they don’t last as long as I’d like them to. I nursed Edith for 19 months and found myself having to buy new bras and tanks every 4-6 months just because of the wear on them. Maybe my problem was just not having enough and since I had to wear the same 3-4 all the time they just wore out too quickly.
Laura @ FitMamaLove says
I really wish nursing tanks would make a way to conceal the nursing pads!
Hailey is so cute posing with you in those pics!
And I love that you put peanut butter on her feet for the dog to lick off, haha!
Dale says
Have you heard of UndercoverMama nursing tanks? They are amazing. They are basically camis without straps with a little hook that attaches to your nursing bra. You can wear them under any shirt and basically turn it into a nursing shirt. I LIVED in these last year when I was nursing my son.
Brittany Dixon says
I have heard of those and they sound great! I’m so glad they worked so well for you!
Lauren B. says
I’ve said this before but I LOVE your shoes!!
Luke Brennan was born two days ago! So now I am again living in nursing tops. 🙂
Brittany Dixon says
I’ve been thinking about you and knowing he must be coming soon! Congratulations!! And I love his name- precious. So happy for you!!
Lauren B. says
Thank you!!!
Jen says
That tank is super cute, but more importantly you look great! Hot mama!
Sarah says
You look gorgeous, Mama! I could hardly tell you were wearing a nursing tank until you showed the close-up. I love the outfit…and Hailey’s posing. So adorable:-).
Jillian @ Baby Doodah! says
Oh dear, the paci! My son loves his! He’ll be two in a few weeks and I have no idea how we’re ever going to wean him. I’m not THAT worried, he’s usually pretty good at weaning himself off things when he’s ready, but it sure would be nice if it happened sooner rather than later. 🙂
Side note: I adore Bravado Bras!! When I was nursing Emmett I had 4 and I still wear them on lazy weekends… they’re THAT comfortablE!
