Mornin’! All the comments you left yesterday were seriously so helpful. I read through them all, and while I agree that every baby is different, it really helped me to get a sense of what everyone else is doing, too.
Maybe it was good mojo, but Hailey had a stellar day yesterday with eating and naps. Though someone was hoping she’d eat a little more sloppily.
Hailey ate her yolk and apple while I ate 1 egg + her egg white on half a whole wheat bagel with veggie cream cheese and 1/2 an apple with cinnamon.
Mid morning was Cabot plain Greek yogurt with honey and Love Grown goodness before I headed out to try on bathing suits.
Isn’t it amazing how bathing suit shopping can transform you from feeling like super woman to making you swear that the stores must have completely different mirrors than the ones you have at home? I went everywhere, from Macy’s and Dillard’s to a high end swimsuit shop. I was so nutty that I was going to pay a ridiculous amount if they could show me a suit that fully covered my behind. No luck. Seriously? Not a single size they had was covering me properly, so I gave up and sulked into a delicious Zoe’s Kitchen hummus plate.
Mmm… Zoe’s Kitchen.
Back home, I downed a quick snack,
then went on a short, 30 minute wog before heading back out for more errands. Koda needed dog food and I quickly realized the pet store makes for a very exciting trip to a 7 month old. Forget the zoo!
It just so happened that the pet store was next to Old Navy and I somehow talked myself into giving the whole bathing suit thing one more try… SUCCESS!!
Everything fit like a dream! I loved the solid black bottoms with the mix-n-match tops. Plus, each piece was only $15! I love you Old Navy.
We celebrated back at home with a meal of peas and whole wheat spaghetti. She ate it all and flashed me that gummy smile that just melts me.
David and I went a little fancier for our dinner. I tried a new wild rice recipe.
Yum. I paired it with broccoli and a new york strip.
I ate half my piece of steak and went back for more broccoli and rice. Oh, I ate 2 carrots and 2 olives while I was cooking dinner, too. Had to mention that just to keep things honest
Where do you have the most luck with bathing suits?
I can’t praise Old Navy enough right now for saving the day!
Lee says
I’ve had good luck at Old Navy too with bathing suits.
Kath says
Almost all of my suits have come from Old Navy!
Parita @ myinnershakti says
I feel you on the bathing suit issue. I feel that way every year. Target always seems to have a suit or two that fit just right. The ones I bought this year look very similar to what you got at Old Navy, mix and match and all!
Michelle says
Cute suit 🙂 I have to try mine on and see if any of mine fit right post-baby. Question? I haven’t been trying on clothes since I had the baby because I wasn’t sure about bringing her in the dressing room with me (seemed like kind of a pain) What do you do with Hailey? just bring her right in?
Brittany says
Usually I have her in the stroller and use the large dressing room and wheel her in. Yesterday, since I just ran in and out, I carried her in and set her down. I “model” for her and she gets a kick out of my funny poses 😉
Sejal M says
Pre babies I always got my suits at Old Navy. I still have them and will wear them soon, I hope…bosy not really back yet…
Anyways, Post baby #1 I got a tankini(covered my c section tummy AND easy to nurse in). I also got a speedo for swim lessons with baby. 🙂
Sejal M says
Um, I just realized that it might look like I meant that I got a speedo like male ‘banana hammock’ bottoms. NO. I meant the brand Speedo (full piece, women’s sport swimsuit. 🙂 Phew, sorry LOL!
Brittany says
Haha! I totally knew you didn’t mean banana hammock 😉 That’s a good idea to get a suit like that for swim lessons!
Susan @ Real Life Travels says
I’ve gotten a few from VS and Target. But my favorites are actually from surf shops. Speaking of suits I really need another one … maybe one with fake boobs in it 🙂
Kristen @ notsodomesticated says
Did Old Navy have any plain old one pieces? I have to get a one-piece black or navy suit for work at Lifetime Fitness, and although I found one at Target, I was surprised at how expensive it was! I hate to pay that much for a suit that I’ll hardly ever wear!!
Brittany says
I don’t remember seeing any solid one pieces, but I didn’t look too closely once I found the solid black bottoms and went skipping around the store 😉
paulina says
Sounds like a fun day, minus the bad swim suit shopping experience. Lucky you for wearing a bikini! I have lots of dark stretch marks across my tummy so I think I’ll be switching to tankinis or a one piece. I think one piece suits are coming back in style (kinda) so I won’t look too dorky!
Brittany says
I think they are definitely coming back in style, so I’m sure you’ll look fabulous! I wish I could pull off a one-piece, but I don’t think it’s as flattering for my thighs. I try to down play them as much as possible 😉
sarah (the SHU box) says
i splurged on an anthro suit last summer that i absolutely LOVE — REALLY hope i can still fit into it this summer post-baby (more worried about the top than the bottom!). i also love j. crew — they’re not cheap, but they last forever and they have super classic styles + mix/match sizing.
Brittany says
Oh I love Anthro!! I’ve never looked into their bathing suits, which is probably good because I’m sure I’d fall in love.
Sarah Mo says
Old Navy is great, another place that surprised me is H&M! I am not sure if you have one closeby, but I purchased a bundle of bathing suits last year from their $4.95 collection!
Their trick is that they have tons and tons of bathing suits for only $4.95 a piece…then, they have ones just a LITTLE bit nicer for $24.95 a piece. They make money off those people who will pay $20 more for a more in depth style. I just needed something to cover me up on the shoreline, so $5 was a steal! Great fit on the bottoms and tops!
Dukebdc says
I love, love love Old Navy for clothing basics, but can’t shop there for swimsuits. My, uh, “girls” need a lot of support, and Old Navy doesn’t carry anything with enough structural engineering to keep everything in place. Lucky me gets to shop at the specialty swim shops who sell tops by bra size and charge $75 per piece–yay? Though truthfully I don’t swim much, so one expensive suit can last me a decade!

my baby is 11 months old and has been nursing 5 times a day since probably around 7 months? i am just starting the weaning process since i hope to be done around 12-13 months. he eats when he wakes up, after each nap, and before bed. he used to nap 3 times and now only naps twice so we are down to 4 feedings as of last week. i plan to drop the 2 day time feeding within the next 2 weeks and then just nurse him in the AM and PM.
he always eats a yogurt about a 1/2 hour or so after he wakes up, then has lunch which is like string cheese and fruit, then a snack (goldfish, pb on toast, etc). dinner is turkey meatballs, pasta, veggie pouch, or whatever.
i have always kinda just fed him when i felt that he was hungry.
i think you just kinda figure out what works best for you and your child and follow their lead. she will be in a totally different placed at 10 months but there is no telling what that place will be.
i went away when charlie was 8 months old and i pumped 4 times a day and it wasn’t as big of a pain as i thought it would be! you just manage…
good luck!!!
also – my Dr. told me that babies dont have to have every food group throughout a day, but they need to have every food group throughout a week…
katie@newmamamac says
sorry i left that on the wrong post, and it is super long!!!! my apologies 🙂
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
Old Navy never used to fit me when I was a bit heavier (mainly b/c of my boobs, ha!) I needed underwire support and they just didn’t provide enough of it. At all. Then last year I gave it a shot again since the first place I lose weight is in the chest and they fit! I’m pretty sure I smiled all day long after that. It’s nice to be able to spend like $25-30 on a bathing suit instead of $100 at a department store!
Lauren B. says
I usually find my bathing suits at Target, afor they hold up for a few years at least! We are heading off on our babymoon next week, so I am searching for either maternity bathing suits or tank-inis to fit my 6 month+ belly! Does Old Navy have maternity suits?
Brittany says
I can’t believe you’re 6 months already- WOW!! So exciting. I don’t remember if they had maternity or not. I wish I could send you my maternity suit (…or is that weird??). I found a great deal on a blue and pink lily pultizer maternity suit online and loved it! Have so much fun on your babymoon 🙂
Kristin says
Wild rice recipe please! 🙂
Brittany says
I’m writing down a note to remind me to send it to you…
Keri says
I found a great tankini top at lands end that works well with a bottom I already have. I wanted a tankini top in case im feeling a little self conscience:) and they have petite suits which is perfect for this 5’2″ momma! 😉
Brittany says
Love the idea of a petite suit! I’m 5’1″ and love when things are made to fit my short torso 🙂
kristin point says
I’ve been avoiding bathing suits like the plague. I’m 7 weeks post pardum and while I feel/look way better then I imagined I would… I still don’t think ill be looking fresh in my VS bathing suits! Not to mention my old tops WILL not contain these knockers! I’m not used to having to account for a chest but btnw pregnancy and nursing it will deff be a challenge this swimsuit season.
Brittany says
Haha! My boobs were huge postpartum and now they’ve shrunk back to normal. I guess my milk evened itself out and no longer needs to make me look busty. Too bad, it was fun for a bit 😉
Sarah @ The Strength of Faith says
I despise bathing suit shopping! The lighting is awful, the mirrors make you looks short and stout and ugh. Just ugh.
chelsey @ clean eating chelsey says
I love Victoria’s Secret bathing suits!
Sarah says
My great aunt is the Zoe that started Zoe’s kitchen! Love their food!!
Brittany says
Are you SERIOUS?! Do you get to eat there for free?! It’s delicious! <3
Suzana says
I’m so curious as to what people do to the other half of their food! Do you eat the other half of the bagel at another time? Do stick your apple back in the fridge for a smoothie later? So you eat the other half of the steak as left-overs?
Brittany says
Haha, what a funny question, I love it! Yes, I save the other half of the bagel for the next day. I split the apple with Hailey, so we each had half. David ate the other half of the steak 🙂
KaraHadley says
Old Navy suits are the best! I think all my suits are from there and they last forever. I think I’m going to need a new one this year and I’m heading to Old Navy. Sometimes I have luck at Target, too, but it’s hard to find a matching bottom and top.
Megan says
#1: Ugh. I’m dreading bathing suit season exactly for the reasons you mentioned. And it’s funny to me that I now shop for the same thing – a bottom with a full coverage butt – when 5 years ago, I would’ve been searching for the skimpiest piece of fabric available.
#2: I don’t even like steak, but that one you made for dinner looks awesome. I would toss aside my red meat aversions for a bite of that!
Brittany says
Haha! It’s amazing what motherhood will do for shopping habits. More fabric, please!
And yes, push aside your meat-aversion because that steak was awesome. It’s local, grass fed and deeeeeeee-freaking-licious.
Lisa says
Victoria’s Secret is where I usually find bathing suits, I haven’t been into Old Navy for a while, so I’m not sure what there selection would be like for me! I’ll have to check it out I think.
