On day 14, a Saturday, we woke up to sip tea and coffee ad stare at the Tetons. Once everyone was up and moving, we headed into Jackson for breakfast at a new spot, The Bunnery.
There was a line, but it moved quickly and 20 minutes later we were seated. It was a good, casual breakfast spot. Mom won the ordering contest with her vegetarian benedict!
The girls begged again to stroll through the stores in Jackson, so we headed back to a spot mom had spotted a purse she liked. Along the way we ran into the downtown farmers market!
You guys, what a location for one of the cutest markets I’ve seen. Booths with local and organic vegetables, coffee, homemade soup, soaps, live music, and the coolest thing I saw- cup of watermelon and mango slices being sold as a snack. It was so much fun to wander through!
Soon enough, we were headed back north and into Grand Teton National Park. Today we had a plan: to hike to Leigh Lake.
This hike begins at the Leigh Lake Trailhead near String Lake. It’s 3.7 miles and, as we discovered, is a GREAT trail for kids if they can handle that length. The trail is easy terrain, shaded by the forest for most of it, and runs right along water for the majority of the trail.
There are so many spots to spot and stick your feet in the water (which is ridiculously clear) or swim. There are also many opportunities to scamper over rocks that jut into the lake. Being near water, means a good chance for wildlife, too (we saw a female elk). And the views are incredible!
I’ll also always remember this trip as the trip where Kaitlyn wanted to hold my hand ALL the time. I’m not much of a hold hands and hike kind of person, but I know this won’t always be the case, so I embraced the sweaty hand holding situation with a smile.
We were all on such a high after that hike. In all our adventuring, a hike like that one had been just what we were looking for. It was long enough to get some real movement in, beautiful enough to keep us engaged, and shaded and with enough water to keep us cool. What a gem! I posted a reel about that specific hike, if you want to see it in video 🙂
Pleased with our afternoon, we headed back to our place to shower up and change for dinner. We decided a margarita and some salsa sounded good and head to Jackson for the Merry Piglets Tex-Mex restaurant we had walked past many times.
There was quite a wait when we arrived (Saturday night at prime time, so that makes sense). We put our name on the list for the 75 minute wait, but since they notify you by text, we were able to go wander some more.
The girls both decided on cap guns as their souvenir (Nana’s treat!) and it was so much fun to watch them act like cowgirls and duel each other. We visited the highly recommended MADE store and oogled their local crafts. I crushed hard on the National Parks Map!
By the time an hour had passed, the girls were getting tired and hungry (and I must admit, we were too). We headed back to the restaurant to order some lemonades and margaritas at the bar. Then we stood our front and watched the horse and carriage ride by with our refreshments.
It did the trick and soon enough we were seated and chowing down on chips, salsa, guac, and queso. It hit the spot!
It was a great way to spend our last night in Jackson. With full tummies we headed back to our place. Mom went to shower, so David, the girls, and I walked to the quiet street in front of our rental to enjoy the setting sun. The girls picked dandelions and we talked about wanting to come back to ski. A girl can dream…
It was such a beautiful way to end the night. As the next day, we’d be back on the road again!
