Alternatively titled, Mom’s One Day Vacay.
When plans for this past weekend got mixed up last minute I was a little bummed. Still, I was beyond grateful that Mema packed up and headed up here quickly to take care of the girls while David worked so I could make the 4 hour trek to Atlanta for Laura’s wedding. Laura is amazing. She is the sister of one of my best friends that I’ve had since the sixth grade and I love that family so much. I felt honored to be included in the celebration.
I arrived and went straight to the bridal suite to see the bride getting dolled up while I chatted with best girlfriends from college. I was so excited to see everyone, but soon it was time to disperse and get dressed.
That’s when it hit me… I have a hotel room. To myself. With no responsibilities. I don’t think I can express how foreign it felt for me to take my time getting ready, flipping through cable and not having something to do or someone to tend to. It was INCREDIBLE.
For those that asked on instagram, my dress is this Adrianna Papell, which comes in petite! High fives for my fellow shorties.
It was the most beautiful day for a wedding, about 75 and not a cloud in the sky.
I wiped a tear per usual as I watched Laura walk down the aisle arm and arm with her dad. Listening to the ceremony on mine and David’s anniversary (albeit alone), was a great reminder of how grateful I am to have found him and I sent a mental kiss his way as I watched Laura and Wilson say their vows.
Then, it was onto the party!
All the details were in place at the Atlanta Country Club. From the patio bars to wedding cake; all was picturesque.
It was a really fabulous evening. Drinking wine, hanging out with my friends and eating several small plates of food and red velvet cake was incredibly enjoyable.
And the band? They were ON POINT and we danced our booties off all evening.
If you need a wedding band, I highly recommend Loose Chain. I fully blame them for this picture:
…not the pinot grigio.
The duck face is not my best look, but man oh man was it fun.
I didn’t bring my nice camera, so I couldn’t snap a picture that did the bride justice- absolutely stunning!
And after the festivities I returned to my clean, quiet hotel room so a blissful night’s sleep. I slept all the way until… 6:30. #momproblems
And even though I enjoyed every second of my four hour drive home filled with talk radio and not a single preschooler song, I was more than excited to see my girls run to me as I pulled in the driveway.
Who knew a one day vacay could be so incredibly refreshing!!
What is your favorite part of weddings?
I love seeing the first song choice. Laura and Wilson’s was the beautifully classic Stand by Me. Fun fact, mine and David’s was Everything by Michael Buble!

AH weddings… I miss getting all dolled up!
I love seeing the dress for the first time! And then I love seeing the inside of the cake… especially if it’s chocolate!
Brynn says
those doors!! Ah! Love your dress as well; all about those petite a. My favorite part of a wedding is the ceremony closely followed by the first dance.
John J. says
Looking good, daughter! You’ve still got your mojo!
Marnie @ SuperSmartMama says
So many things I love about your post today! One day mama vacay, petite dresses (yes!), and wine!
My favorite part of weddings is seeing everyone let loose on the dance floor.Especially the ones you would NEVER guess could dance and it turns out they’ve got the MOVES!
Brittany Dixon says
Yes! I love when the flow is right and people spend all night on the dance floor. At this age, it’s rare to get the opportunity to dance and I love it!!
Erin @ Her Heartland Soul says
What a great little getaway! The wedding looked like it was a lot of fun!
Brittany says
Great dress! Navy looks good on you!

Girrrrl. You look AMAZING – and I’m not just talking about that dress, shoes, and makeup! Those toned arms + legs and itty bitty waist – you’ve inspired me to get back to it. {Finally!} Remind me again of the online sessions you like?
Josephine says
My thoughts exactly, Brittany you look very trim and toned, perfection. Bootcamp is obviously working for you, how often are you managing to fit in exercise? You’ve inspired me to fit in a workout today 😉
Brittany Dixon says
You guys are so kind, thank you! Don’t underestimate the power of a good camera angle either though 😉
Ashley- I haven’t done online sessions in a while because I’m terrible at sticking to them/making it through the video. I have enjoy PopPilates and Yoga by Candace on Youtube though!
Josphine- It isn’t always easy, but I’m scheduling in 3 bootcamp classes a week. I am so grateful that they offer childcare so I can bring the girls if necessary.

What fun!
I too love the first song choice. Ours is “Dreaming my Dreams” by the Cranberries.
Christine says
Love the navy dress! I’m really into navy lately!
My favorite part at weddings is the food. Even at our own wedding I made sure we had plenty of food to offer, and yummy food at that! My favorite was when we offered grilled cheeses half way through dancing, which everyone devoured!
Brittany Dixon says
Love when couples think to offer a late snack! I didn’t know about this at my own wedding, but have loved this at others. I’m sure the grilled cheeses were a HUGE hit!
Kari says
Looks like so much fun! Loving your dress..that color is so gorgeous!
Katy Mc says

And my favorite part of any wedding is seeing the bride walk down the aisle. So special! A close runner up would be eating all the delicious food. 🙂

You looked fabulous! My fave part of a wedding is the cake! Duh! 😉
Danica @ It's Progression says
I love pretty much everything about weddings, but one of my favorite parts is watching the groom’s face while the bride walks down the aisle. It’s absolutely priceless every time.
I’m glad you got to be at the wedding! Sounds like you had a great time : )
Marjorie @APinchOfHealthy says
I love that dress on you! And I am glad you got a mini break. 🙂
Heather@hungryforbalance says
Love that dress!! You look beautiful!
I love weddings! I always get chills when the bride walk down the aisle with her dad/family and then again with her new husband!
Lauren Brennan says
I actually got a couple of nights away…by myself….in a hotel room…too! I went to a conference, and left the babes with my hubby. Even though I wasn’t doing anything super fun or crazy, it was still so nice to dress business casual, have time to actually do my hair, and exercise my brain muscles in a different way! I didn’t even know what to do with myself…
Alas, I also woke up at 5:45 each morning which is even earlier than normal! Ugh.
And I don’t know about you, but the whole time I kept feeling like I was forgetting something! Did you have that problem?
Glad you got to get away! 🙂
Kelli H (Made in Sonoma) says
You totally rocked that dress!!!
