It turns out I wasn’t the only one traveling a couple weeks ago, Julie from Savvy Eats was on a vacation of her own in Italy. I almost felt like I was with her given my Austrian Italian love affair, but I digress…
I loved the way Julie gave out awards to the ‘best of’ her Italy experience. I decided it would be the perfect way to wrap up the week of vacation sharing!
Now without further adieu… the award goes to…
The Most Frequently Consumed Beverage:
Is that even a question?
Most Ridiculous Meal
It was at a pretentious little restaurant in Salzburg. Everything (I kid you not… EVERYTHING) was served in a mini ice cream cone. I ordered scallops. A scallop came in an ice cream cone that was filled with mashed potatoes with a scallop on top.
The One Food I Was Afraid to Eat:
After day one? Anything German? 😉 I’d say this would have to go to suckling baby pig. Although I was thankful it didn’t come out as a piglet on a plate with an apple in his mouth, I couldn’t bring myself to try it when Hubbs ordered it.
The Best Dessert
The best… and only? What can I say… we’re not big dessert people. Well, I guess we had gelato, which was tasty, but the award goes to this wonderful apple strudel we had one afternoon. The whipped cream wasn’t too sweet and the dessert wasn’t too sweet either, which I thought was awesome! So flaky and delish!
The Most-Consumed Produce:
Tomatoes in my pasta sauce?? That might be the real answer. I was shocked at the lack of produce in any restaurant meals, given that the outdoor markets in Salzburg were amazing!
Favorite Afternoon Snack:
Coffee!! I loved how everyone sipped coffee all the time… especially because the weather was cold. I think I have a new found love for cappuccinos!
Best Dressed
I’d say it would have to be a tie between Hubbs & me…
….and these guys:
I’ve had so much fun recapping my vacation this week…. thanks for letting me share! Next week… back to health blogging… and running. I haven’t run in 2 weeks and I’m so scared I’ve lost my ability! We’ll find out on Monday…
Hope you all have a fabulous weekend!!

Wow, I thought this post was really cool! It read like an article we have in the Denver Post sometimes. I can’t believe the ice cream cone restaurant!
I love to travel. You look like you had an amazing time. I am going to Thailand on Sunday for 2 weeks to see my boyfriend on his leave from Afghanistan. Maybe I will do a similar post if you don’t mind. 😉 I will give you credit of your, it’s a cool way to sum up a trip!

I felt the same way about the produce situation in Mexico. There was SO much beautiful produce and yet, it never found its way into their meals.

Of course the beer would be a-flowing! Yum.
Don’t worry, you haven’t lost your fitness level in this amount of time. Just get to it!

Everything in ice cream cones?? Hmm…well I guess it’s kind of a slightly sweet & savory combo, huh? 😛
Don’t worry about not running for two weeks- you’ll be fine! I took a 5 month long break while I had runner’s kne and came back better than ever 🙂
Maria @ Oh Healthy Day says
Ah! I love your German outfit! Want one for Halloween 🙂
Running will come back to you so easily – I’ve taken breaks before and just after one or two sessions, I was back in the race. Good luck!

I wish we had markets with produce like that! Don’t sweat the run. I’m sure you’ve still got it. 🙂
