I struggled with what to title this post. Another coffee date? Thursday thoughts? Random tidbits? Whatever the title, I’m just here to chat and share for a minute. No well thought out, 7 things you need to know or recipe type post today. Just my rambling.
…wait, where’d you all go??
1. Yesterday morning I had a brunch date set with my friend, Kelly. Or so I thought. When I walked in to meet her I was blown away to find this
waiting for me along with all of these wonderful ladies and their kids!
Kelly had been wanting to throw me a shower and I kept telling her no, so the little sneak went behind my back! I was really overwhelmed, which I must have said a million times and a tear or two might have fallen from my eyes.
Thanks to my generous friends, I am going to have one well-dressed little girl. Kelly, you are too much!
And the icing on the proverbial cake? My MOM was there!! All the way from G-A! Hailey was over the moon excited by that of course, as was I. Overwhelmed with gratitude is the only way I can think to describe the whole morning.
2. Gosh, after a surprise like that, what else is there to chat about? Can I mention again that I’m really grateful to have my mom’s help for a day or two? I’ll share more of an update tomorrow, but late pregnancy is starting to settle in. I’m not sleeping as well, having more aches and pains and woke up this morning to a sore throat. I’m currently sipping on some apple cider vinegar and pity my mom for having to hang out with me once I pop a garlic clove in my mouth. I’m going to hit up all these natural sore throat cures today.
3. Salad! I’m so hooked on pears or strawberries in salads right now when combined with blue cheese crumbles. I highly suggest the following combo: baby spinach and arugula, strawberries, avocado, green onions, blue cheese crumbles, slivered almonds and Brianna’s Blush Wine Vinaigrette. I’ve been eating some variance of this daily. So good!
4. For those that have asked, potty training has been going really well for what I was expecting! Hailey is pretty much day trained and hasn’t had an accident in a few days. We are still fighting the battle with #2s, but that may go on for a while. She went once in the potty, but not on purpose. She prefers to wait for her pull up (which she wears for sleeping). Overall, I’m incredibly pleased that it went better than I anticipated. I also get a kick out of the fact that she likes to share with everyone we see that she went tee-tee in the potty! Luckily we hang out with a lot of other moms that get it and high five her for her accomplishments.
5. I started a garden! (Again). Well, I weeded half of it and threw in a few plants. I typically end up trying to go too big and the whole thing falls apart, so I’m hoping by focusing on just a few plants this year I can gain some confidence and do more next year. Plus we are growing a few herbs on the porch, which Hailey is really excited about.
6. Thanks for the support of Sevenly and St. Baldrick’s yesterday! I was excited to share about the organization and was thrilled to hear that some of you already knew of them and have bought gifts for others through them- what an awesome idea!! The randomly chose winner is comment #18, Nancy who picked the super cute Keep Calm Boyfriend tee. Check your inbox Nancy!
7. You know, I really don’t have a 7, but I can’t bring myself to end on a number 6. There. That’s one quirk about me you perhaps didn’t know before

Have you ever been completely surprised by a party, shower, kind deed from a friend?
Are you doing a garden this year? What are you planting?
Any spring flavor or food that you are hooked on lately?

I love surprising people, I just don’t like to be surprised! And the investigator in me always find out one way or another so my family and friends have learnt not to try to surprise me!!!
Love that picture of the three generations! Very endearing.
I gave up any hope of planting anything once I got two Rottweilers 🙁
Hope you are feeling better and stronger

That was so sweet of your friend to throw you a surprise shower, and so so great that your mom came! I can’t wait to hear how your garden comes along. I would love to start a garden one day, but I have so much to learn!

i used to be sooooo obsessed with that salad dressing!

What a sweet surprise! Thankfully I’ve never been surprised by a party or shower – those kinds of surprises overwhelm me to the extreme and I tend to break out into hives when put on the spot or when I’m the center of attention. :p
I’ve got seeds started inside, but we definitely need to get our outside garden beds ready to go! That might be difficult right now since there is about 4 inches of snow on them, however. I think I’ll wait until May to start officially planting anything outside…

how sweet! and SO SPECIAL that your mom could make it!

I grew up in the suburbs of Atlanta and my mom always planted a lot of veggies in the backyard. Strawberries never grew very well, but summer squash (yellow squash) went crazy! We were eating squash everyday, giving it away, and still had SO many!
I live in downtown Chicago now, so a real garden is out of the question, but I might put a couple of planters out on the balcony.

Aww…I love it!! How Fun!!

What sweet friends you have!
Yes, I am doing a garden this year – herbs, tomatoes, peppers, chard, kale and lettuces. And I will be posting about it too! I love how you labeled your weeds! LOL. I am impressed that you got out in the garden at all in late pregnancy. Oh those were tough weeks. Hang in there!
One thing I am hooked on right now is salad too! I put fruit (any combo of watermelon, grapes, berries), with goat cheese crumbles, and my home made balsamic vinaigrette (linked in comment luv below). Soooo yummy! Obsessed right now. I go through kicks like this and get stuck on eat and repeat for a while. Sometimes I add chicken to make it a meal. Sometimes I throw on leftover something else, like roasted veggies on top. So versatile.

I would LOVE a garden. When we buy a house, that’s one of the first things I’ll do (screw painting and decorating the inside haha). I think that’s a valiant effort; especially for how far along in pregnancy you are. I swear I am the complete opposite of a good wife/mom at the moment haha.
I had a surprise bridal shower, thanks to my SIL, which did not work out well. I thought I was going over to babysit my niece, so I wore terrible clothing and went there with soaking wet hair. When they tried to do that again with a baby shower, I told Tyler he must tell me beforehand because I did NOT want anymore surprises!

I’ve been super into the fruit and blue cheese combo in salads lately, too. Tis the season! One little hint on the potty poops (not that I’m any kind of expert) but it is a lot easier for a toddler to get them out on the little potty chair. They just can’t easily get the right leverage to press their feet down and push on a big potty. Plus it can be a little scary for them. Olive does all her pees in a normal potty, but still does 95% of her poops in a little one. It’s kind of gross to still have to deal with cleaning it out, but much easier than a diaper. I dump it in the toilet, rinse with water from the sink, and then keep a bottle of spray cleaner in the bathroom to give it a quick squirt and rinse. Been meaning to mention this, but forgot until this post.

Good on you for trying the garden again. I know you’ll have your hands full, but maybe it will be some stress relief. Although I’m stressing a little at the moment because we’re super busy, I have 15 fruit and nut trees in a bucket I NEED to plant yesterday, plus we have a hen sitting on 12 fertilized eggs due to hatch in 4 days. They’re going to need somewhere to sleep. 🙂
Never a dull moment.
