The the third trimester is creeping closer, which blows my mind!
What Fruit are you? A rutabaga. A what? Exactly. She should be about 13.5” long and 1.5 lbs. She’s starting to put on some baby fat and growing more hair. I’m actually so curious about her hair. Will it be curly and crazy like mine? Or straight like David’s? Or a combo like Hailey’s?!
Due date: May 9, 2014
How far along: 25 weeks
Gender: A little lady!
Total weight gain/loss: Up 16 pounds and feeling it.
Exercise: I realize I haven’t been too specific about what I’ve actually been doing. I workout 3-4 times a week with a combo of exercises, but the sessions are short. It’s rare that they are longer than 35 minutes, which is great for me. Here are the workouts I’ve completed in the past two weeks:
– 2 miles speed walk.
– 2 mile bike ride + a lower body circuit
– 2.2 miles run (12 minute miles)
– 3.2 mile wog
– arm/upper body circuit + 10 minutes on the stair stepper
– 1 mile run (12 minute mile) + swimming (playing in the pool)
– full body strength and cardio circuit + 1 mile speed walk
Not to sound like a total cliché, but carrying Hailey around and playing with her throughout the days certainly adds more activity to my days that I didn’t have last go ‘round.
Stretch marks: None yet. DO yo’ thang, coconut oil!
Swelling: No swelling.
Maternity clothes: All maternity, all the time. I might as well delete this question from now on, right?
Belly button: In for now. But the top is starting to poke out. It’s weird. I can’t explain it.
Sleep: Sleep is solid, which I appreciate. I’m snoozing from 10-6:30 and taking an hour nap probably 2 times a week.
Food cravings: Still MEAT! I housed a shredded BBQ chicken sandwich in my car after catching a scent of the vendor selling them. I’m considering getting my iron levels checked because it’s so intense. (For more of what I’m eating, follow me on instagram)
Symptoms: I’m feeling this pregnancy now and seem to feel the third trimester creeping closer. Some back pain has kicked in the past few days and has been intense at times. Yesterday I work supportive shoes and my new Gabriella support belt most of the day. Between that, chugging water and forcing myself to kick my feet up for 1.5 hours during nap time, I felt much better. Looks like I just need to start listening to my body more.
I also have moments where I see the sparkles in front of my eyes. Low blood pressure I believe? A few minutes of sitting down seems to cure it.
Oh, and hunger. I’m still quite hungry quite often!
Movement: Yes! I love being able to feel and see her so easily from the outside now.
What I miss: Nothing too much at the moment.
What I’m loving: The movement of course!
What I’m looking forward to: Naming this sweet baby. I’m ready to give her a name! Not sure if we will share it or not, but I’m ready to start calling her by one.
Hailey’s take: I’ve been trying to talk about her baby sister more often and talking to her about what a great big sister and helper she is going to be. I’m not 100% sure if she gets it, but she points to my belly and says “baby seester”, then will sometimes give it a kiss. She pointed to a painting I have of a woman holding a baby and she said “mommy and baby seester” … so maybe she is grasping the idea?
Words of wisdom: Time to start taking breaks when I need them. The back insists on it!
For fun: 24 weeks with Hailey and 25 weeks with Hailey
Now let’s talk about… strollers.
We have one stroller (the city mini), which we have loved! Being that Hailey will be 2.5 when baby girl arrives, I’m wondering if I need a double stroller. I don’t realistically see myself running with both of them, so I’m not sure I’d need a jogging stroller, but it might be nice to have one for long walks or a big trip out (like to a zoo).
What do you think… is a double stroller good to have?
If I get one, should I get the one where they are one in front of the other or side by side?
Karen says
You are too cute!! If I was to have another one I’d probably get the front-back double stroller. Keely is not liking the stroller anymore so I know a side-by-side would be a waste of money of me. Have a great weekend.

I have two girls and was given a double stroller as a gift. It was nice but I never used it. On the rare occasion that my oldest needed a ride in the stroller I put the baby in the ergo. Traveling with a single stroller and and carrier was much easier to me than a double a roller- but I have met mom’s who love their doubles so just like everything else it depends. Haha that doesn’t help much does it 🙂

We’re different in that we do plan on running with both babes. We actually are signed up for our 2nd half marathon in October (6 months PP) Plus our older son is 17 months and will be just about 20 months old when this little boy is due, so a bit younger than Hailey. We’re lucky that our older son likes the stroller. We have the BOB Revolution for him now that we used to train for our first half marathon. It’s our only stroller and we LOVE it. It’s so easy to maneuver, easy to fold up and fairly light weight. We went ahead and bought the double BOB Revolution (from Craigslist at a deep discount) and will use that with both boys. It’s side by side which I like so they can see each other and talk to each other. I also like the idea that I can see both easily without straining to see over the carseat (which baby boy is still young) to see older babe. The maneuverability is the biggest plus. With 2 babes, it’s going to be a lot of weight so I wanted something I could easily push and turn without problems for running, walking, zooing, exploring, doctor’s appointments, etc. Most likely in the beginning I’ll probably use the stroller for our older son and the carrier for our youngest but at doctor’s appointments for myself that’s not really an option if my husband isn’t with me. I feel like the double really opens up a ton of possibilities for us. And if you can find a steal online totally worth it in my eyes.
Kristen says
You look great! Your workouts are so inspiring! Very interested to see what people say about the strollers. I’ve been pondering this myself even though we’re still ttc #2! We have the city mini as well and have loved it! It’s such an awesome stroller.
Juliene says
I have a 2.5 year old and an 8 month old and so far have survived with the ergo and a single stroller. The few times we have gone somewhere like the zoo we have just taken 2 strollers. It wasn’t convenient but it worked. I have a snap and go for the baby and a city mini. Eventually I would like a double especially since I see us having more children. Good luck!
Kelli D. says
Looking great! As for the back pain… I can’t recommend chiropractice care enough while pregnant. I only wish I had done it with my son! I know some people don’t buy into it but it is really helping to keep my body aligned and will hopefully make for an easier labor and delivery. My son was malpostioned so I am hoping this will help get my hips in line!
I am not planning on getting a double stroller. We have the UppaBaby Vista and will get a rumble seat to turn it into a double is we feel the need. Otherwise, my 2.5 year old will be in the UppaBaby Glite Umbrella stroller and baby girl will be the Ergo!
I think this is one of those questions that it’s nice to get other people’s feed back but only you know how much you use the stroller and how often you will realistically have both of them in one. In my opinion, I have better ways to spend $300 than on a double! 🙂
Erin says
My kids are 2y9m apart and while I thought we could get by with just our single BOB and the ergo we did end up deciding to get a double Bob. We don’t use it a ton, but it has been good to have for things like long walks and when my husband takes both kids for a run. I especially liked having it in the warmer weather when the baby was too hot in the ergo. We never travel/fly with the double. I work full-time, but if I were home with the kids I am sure I would use it a lot more. I also like the stroller for situations where I want both kids contained.
All that said, I took a “wait and see what my actual needs are when the baby is here” approach and didn’t buy the double until my younger one was 4 months old. We also bought used on craigslist because we knew we wouldn’t use it enough to warrant buying new and we knew we could easily resell it after we were done.
Karen says
Stick with a single stroller, Hailey is big enough to walk most places.
Although, if you choose a double, I would go front to back, side by side is hard to get through door ways. But doubles are very cumbersome and big.
Linda says
My kids are 22 months apart and we have a double stroller that I have been thankful to have on occasion. sometimes its just easier to take two stroller. A double stroller with both kids in it is HEAVY. I prefer my husband to push the double stroller with both kids. I never realized how hard it would be to go for a walk around my neighborhood in the hills with two kids in a stroller. Try to find one on Craigslist or consignment.
Kim says
Needing a double stroller all depends on how much you use your stroller currently. Yes, Hailey can walk but for how long and how far? For example, living in DC with a 2 year old and 2 month old a double stroller is a necessity. Even though I like to baby wear my son in the ergo, and prefer it if we’re alone, there have been times where being able to keep him in the car seat asleep and stroll our daughter has been awesome. I feel the key is to have a stroller that can be a single or a double so that it’s easy to transport, like the City Mini city select or the britax b ready (which we have and I like that the car seat easily clips in). So identify how you envision using the stroller and what makes sense.
On the subject of understanding there is a baby on the way, I don’t feel like our daughter really got it when I was pregnant but quickly got it and became obsessed with her baby brother, after he was born. It’s the first thing she asks about when she wakes up, loves to help burp him (and sometimes won’t let me when I try) and showers him with attention. It’s so awesome to see, I’m excited for you to get to experience and see first hand that sibling love 🙂
Tiff @ Love Sweat & Beers says
Lookin’ good mama! Hailey is going to adore her baby seester. 🙂 Too cute!
No idea about the stroller issue, but I’m sure you’ll make whatever work. Happy Friday!
Michelle says
I have to admit it’s so weird to think I was in your exact shoes a year ago (minus one day!). It’s amazing how fast and how slow it all goes at the same time. You look great. Hopefully the third trimester treats you well!
As for as a stroller goes — I highly recommend a Joovy Caboose Ultralight. It’s a sit-and-stand type of stroller and it’s PERFECT for a baby and a preschooler. I used it when my daughter was an infant/my son was 3. Hailey can sit when she wants to — or she can hold on and stand. And as you probably already know, having choices is important!
Alexis says
wahoo finally a nice baby bump pic! Looking good Britt!! Can’t wait to hear the name!!!!! 🙂
Chrissie says
I am in the same boat. My son will be 2 years and 6 months when my little guy is born. I also don’t think I will run with both but have been researching strollers for a while. It seems the best solution is the front to back sit n’ stand. Its a lighter stroller so its easier to travel with and your older one can chose to walk or sit with ease. I luckily got a hand me down but agree with all previous posters about checking craigslist: since most people only use them for such a small amount of time they are usually in good shape.
Paulina says
Looking good mama! Good plan to listen to your body and take it easy if you need to. I just had my baby on Monday and we’re sticking with a single stroller for now. My toddler is 27 months old and hasn’t liked riding in a stroller for a few months. She prefers to walk or ride in the wagon if we’re going for a walk. We don’t go to the zoo or museums (etc…) often, but if we did, I’d just wear my baby in the Ergo and bring the stroller for my older daughter. We have a BOB stroller. It was my one big splurge of a baby item when my first was born. We’ve taken it hiking on hilly, rocky trails and it did great.
Heather says
We have the City Select and I love that it can be a single or a double depending on when we need it. Our son (who will be 2 in a few months) doesn’t always like to ride in a stroller, but I imagine it’ll be nice to have the option for a while when we’re on long outings, so I felt okay spending as much as we did on this stroller – first with him and then buying the second seat kit now that we have baby girl. I just felt the side-by-side double strollers would be more awkward because of the width, and the fact that it always has to be a double. Now I’m thinking a sit-and-stand would have been a good idea too, though… since Hailey will be older, it might be better to go with that option.
Julia says
We are planning on doing a Sit and Stand style stroller. I don’t anticipate Evelyn wanting to sit in the stroller for all that much longer. I think she’ll enjoy being able to ride standing or have a seat if she wants a break from walking. I’m definitely not a runner, so there is no need for a double jogging stroller in our house! Good luck.
Stefanie says
Aww I love that Hailey says baby Seester. My big brother calls me that some times and we’re both in our 30s. 🙂
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries says
I think a double would be wise! I would most definitely go with a stroller where they are in front of one another. I have a friend that spent a ton of money on a nice stroller that was side by side, and she’s totally regretting her decision now because she can’t fit in any aisles at the mall/in stores/etc.
Kelly says
I would definitely recommend a double stroller. I know the second my daughter saw a baby in ‘her’ stroller she wanted to be in it! It’s so nice to have a double stroller so they each have a seat and she doesn’t feel like she’s being kicked out of her ride, lol. Plus, carrying/wearing one and pushing a stroller isn’t always the easiest…especially on hot days.
Cindi says
We just got the Joovy Ultralight Caboose Too. Had about every feature I wanted in a double stroller and it’s not gigantic. Lots of storage too! Susan has one and recommended it, so maybe you can go look at hers!
Ali says
If you’re craving meat and seeing the sparkles, you might want to get checked for anemia. I got this when I was about 23 weeks… just an idea.
Lauren B. says
We have a city mini GT right now as well, and love it! When the second comes along, we will probably get the City Select. I love the fact that it is tandem, which will be great for navigating store aisles and sidewalks a little better than a bulky side-by-side model. But then again, I live in a walkable-everywhere town, so my needs might be different than yours. There’s my 2 cents! 🙂
Lindsey says
We got the Britax B-Ready knowing that we would like to have another baby soon and it can easily be converted to a double stroller.
Kari says
I think it depends. My girls are 17 months apart, so a double stroller was a necessity. We just recently upgraded to the BOB duallie and they love sitting side by side (they are 28 and 11 months). My baby hated the Ergo, so a double stroller was even more important. I like the BOB for runs and long walks and just every day use. I’ve had it about a month and I’ve already sold my other double stroller on Craigslist because I like it so much.
jenn says
We have a double jogging stroller than stays in the garage just for walks.its too big to take out. I would get a front and back if yoi wanted one for town just because it’s easier to get through doors. We just take the umbrella stroller and the baby one if we go out and need it.
Marnie says
Awww…you look fabulous! I’m so glad you posted all these questions about what to do when expecting a second one. We’re trying for #2, so I am happy to read all the feedback you’re getting.
Karen says
I have a 1.5 and 3.5 year old…when the baby was born we were gifted a Joovy Caboose with the optional second seat. We picked this stroller out because we weren’t sure if we really needed a double stroller since, at the time, the older kid wasn’t usually using a stroller (City Mini single) when we went out. When the baby came along the older kid decided he was totally into being in the stroller and we ended up buying a City Mini Double second hand. We love it although in hindsight I wish I had gotten the City double new and maybe skipped the Joovy altogether. Every kid is so different and Hailey is a lot older than my first when his baby brother was born so it will probably be a different situation for her. In my experience there were a lot of Joovy Caboose strollers for sale second hand but I really had to wait for a few months for a second hand City Mini Double to pop up.
Karen says
Also…I was going to post this a couple weeks ago but decided it was too weird but since I’m here now I’ll comment anyway…when I watched your almond taste test video a couple weeks ago I had to laugh…you and I sound the exact same (in terms of how we sound on a recording). For some reason I thought you had a southern-type accent this whole time and when I first heard you talking on the video, for a split second, I thought somehow I was playing one of my own videos!

I always wonder what to do about a stroller if you do have more than one, so interested to see moms of 2 comment on this!! (Clearly I am SO much help as usual haha.)
I’d be interested to see about your iron levels too if you did get them checked! I’ve been tired lately, but I think it’s mainly from Nia waking up 2-3 times a night. It’s definitely been taxing on me and what I get accomplished in a day!
Jen says
1) You look amazing!
2) Wyatt does the same thing to my belly! Doesn’t it melt your heart? Let’s hope they still feel the same way once baby is out!
3) My Braxton Hicks have stopped since I’ve been sitting down w/my feet up for 2 hours every night and guzzling water. I make myself drink 3x 24oz water bottles after he goes to bed and it’s helped a ton. Hope that’s all you needed for your back pain to go away too.
4) I doubt I’ll ever run pushing two of them but Jeff insists on getting the BOB duallie because he will. Double strollers are sooooo pricey though – yikes!
Katie says
We have the Joovy Ultralight Double Stroller and LOVE it!! Our kiddos are more closely spaces than yours, so that may play a factor in needing one – but we absolutely love it and it’s the lightest weight double on the market. I couldn’t see myself running with two either, so we went the front/back route – with the back being a seat/stool for Xander. There’s a picture on my IG of it.
Caitlin says
My coworker is pregnant and she dealt with the low iron thing for a time. She had so many steak cravings! It may be smart to get it checked out. She just takes a supplement now. How exciting that you have a name picked out! I know one couple who shared the baby’s name with everyone at 6 or 7 months and so they and everyone else called the baby by her name (Penelope) even before she was born. I know other couples who decide ahead of time and keep it a total secret. I think I’d want to keep it a secret 🙂
Jen says
Yes, I would definitely get a double stroller! Like you said, for trips to places like a zoo it is so helpful. My girls are 7, 5, and 2 and we still take our double when we go on day trips because it’s a great place to hold all our stuff- towels, sweatshirts, snacks, etc. And my older girls like to hop in to take a break from walking.
Jen says
Just want to add that we have the City Mini double and love it- really easy to fold and lift.
Marjorie says
You are too cute!! Love the bump pics. 🙂
I went from wanting to spew at the mere thought of meat to craving it insanely. Like steak. All the time. It was so strange. Maybe it was an iron thing?
Since I only have one son at the moment, I am not much help on the double stroller. I know in Birmingham we have some pretty awesome consignment sales. That might be an option to consider for something like the double jogging stroller. I so enjoyed my walks on maternity leave. They were one of the few times I got out of the house, and I love my (single) jogging stroller.
Dana Tamasi says
Brittany you are so adorable!! My oldest 2 are 2.5yrs apart and I have a front to back double stroller (it only got used maybe enough times for 1 hand) and most of then was out Disney trip. Double strollers are just too big and bulky. I definitely wore my moby wrap with the baby and pushed the older one in the stroller for normal outings.
Jennifer Lopez says
I debated and researched FOREVER whether or not to get a double stroller…Our girls are just over two years apart. I was set on the Baby Jogger stroller that is convertible to several positions for 1 or 2 children (http://www.babyjogger.com/product/city-select/ )The City Mini Double was nice, but when we went to “test drive” at the store I could tell our older one would quickly outgrow it. After much debating on whether or not it was worth the purchase we ended up with the Schwinn Double Jogger from friends that did not use it…and we have LOVED it. We use it for trips, walks, a few times for runs, etc…If I had known of the City Select from day 1 it would have been worth the long term investment of adding the 2nd seat attachments for baby #2. We also “test drove” the BOB double jogger and I did not like how bulky the canopy was around their heads when it was pushed back…nice that it extended all the way down, but too much material. Hope my two sense helps!
jenn says
We went with the schwinn as well and I really like it. And its a fraction of the cost of the BOB!
Lauren @ Fun, Fit and Fabulous! says
I just found your blog and I’m loving it. I’m 17 weeks pregnant so it’s fun to read about what’s to come! 🙂
Heather @ What Does She Do All Day? says
Cupcake and Pumpkin are just shy of 2.5 years apart and we do have a double stroller. We got the Graco Ready 2 Grow which has a bunch of different seating options. When the youngest was a newborn she was in the jump seat facing us and big sister was in the front. Now the little one sits up front and big sister uses it as a sit and stand. It’s been great for trips to the mall, the zoo, when I’m out and about with both by myself. I’ve done the single stroller with the baby in the Ergo, but sometimes it’s just not practical so the option for a double is nice.
For running with both (which I don’t do often) I use a bike trailer that converts to a stroller.
The girls get too handsy when they’re next to each other.
So, yeah, I have 3 strollers.

Best lookin’ pregnant Mama on the planet! Way to take care of you and baby girl grand daughter!
Amy says
We’ve had great luck on those long mall or zoo trips with the Joovy Caboose. It really isn’t much longer than a single stroller and our 2 year old still fits well in the front seat while her 4 year old brother usually stands on the back or walks beside holding the little carry handle on the frame. As a bonus when he chooses to walk the seat on the back is a great place to carry all the stuff that seems to accumulate when you go anywhere with kids. Running with both doesn’t happen, but it didn’t happen much with our single stroller and just one kid either!
Erin @ The Grass Skirt says
Looking great! I have the same question about the double stroller, so I need to scroll through all of the comments. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
Chantal says
I don’t think I’m going to get a double stroller… but by the time we have a baby, Penny will be 3.5 and that’s a bit easier for walking around I think. Though I imagine I’ll be wearing the baby a lot those first months and then Penny can ride in the stroller.
Ellen says
Wooo, don’t those maternity back/abdominal braces feel great? I was super reluctant to get one with my second pregnancy, but once I did I was sold. I got the kind that has the strap which goes over the top of your belly, too. It really adds additional support. I’m at 29weeks right now and use it whenever I’m on my feet for a long time…cooking, cleaning, walking.
Thanks for helping me not feel like I was the only lady rockin one!
Colleen says
The City Select double is awesome. Can use one or both seats in multiple positions. That being said,it’s expensive and i stopped putting my kids in entirely when they turned 3, with the exception of a day at Disney. I would check Craigslist, that’s where wet just sold ours. It was5 years old and held up very well.
Laura @ Mommy Run Fast says
You look fantastic! I’m enjoying all the comments here… I’m wondering the same about the double stroller but L’s even older (just turned 4!) so I don’t think we’d use it much. She’s great at walking through the zoo, etc, but it is still nice to have a place for her to sit when she gets tired… I can’t decide!
Susan says
As previous posters have mentioned, I think it depends on how good of a walker your older child is. My son is 2 (29months) and we have used our stroller maybe 4-5 times in the past half year. We just went to the zoo a few days ago and a lady asked, why he’s not using a stroller. He can easily walk for a few hours (at his pace and with breaks, of course). He will be 2 years and 11 months when #2 arrives and we will definitely not be spending money on a double stroller, but possibly get a piggyback board that attaches to the stroller and he can stand on, if he needs a rest.
Tarayn says
Update us on your stroller thoughts now that your getting in the swing of things!!

I still don’t use the stroller very much but am looking into getting a double jogging stroller for fall walks/runs with both girls. For my life it isn’t a must have right now, but I would probably use it some if I had one!

I think most of the time it is just nice to have one stroller to transport two kids so they can both enjoy the same activity at the same time.
Sometimes just having the ability to strap two children into one space so we can be monitored if these child turn craziness. :).
How big? Which style? Side-by-side? There are so many things to consider ..
From what i know, double stroller side-by-side is the most common types of double product on the market.
These strollers offer similar experiences for each “little passengers” , with seats and canopies that have similar properties and adjust-ability.
And both will have equal sized seats, recline options, stow pockets, and protection from the elements.. .etc
However, these kind of strollers are relatively wide and can be harder to navigate through narrow spaces and doorways.
